I have a Rem 550-1 that I just picked up , I`ve given it a complete cleaning inside and out , I have only one issue , it won`t automatically pick up a cartridge from the mag and chamber the round but it will do it manually , I`ve tried 2-3 brands of ammo but same result ,does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should be looking at that might solve this issue,thanks?

if memory serves me, mine would do the same thing if the floating chamber was not floating.....ie, stuck in the one position with grit.
Yup, does the "floating chamber" move? I had a similar issue with the one I had. It had been shot so long with .22 shorts that the area around the chamber was almost FUSED together with old residue.
Took the 550 apart again this time also removing the floating chamber , it was stuck solid , so I put some solvent on it . And then I was able to removed it and gave it a polishing with some extra fine steel wool and now I can run shorts ,sub sonics and any of number bulk 22lr ammo.. Thanks for the help
