Need help with Bear Hunt

I didn't figure I had to state that...Its kinda obvious. I'm sorry if that confused you.

hell you did not confuse me.i see people every year say they had a new scope put on and had it bore sighted and never fire a shot til opening day:eek:i was not sure if you were one of those types or not:p

funny enough, its my first time bear hunting too:)

Im planning on using dog food for bait, mixed up with some corn syrup and scrap food of the table

now Im very partial about using a ground blind instead of tree stand, havnt decided yet

You can buy a horse feed. Sweet Mix - oats, corn, molasses, and corn oil. Bears loved it. I think it was $18 for a 40kg bag.

I think I am going to buy a huge bag of oats and some molasses. What is molasses like to work with? Do I have to boil it, and then mix it with the oats? Someone please tell me, cause I have no idea!

I'm not too sure what we are using for bait. My friends dad is taking care of the baiting. I might try a honey burn when we get there though.....sounds like a good idea.

We were talking about using ground blinds but I think we are going with tree stands.

I think I am going to take my 300 win mag and my Rem 870 with rifled barrel. Which one I use will depend on the area and how thick the bush is. I have never seen the area we are hunting so I'm not sure what to expect.

depending on the performance of my guns this sunday, Im either taking enfield .303 or winchester M70 in 30-06 plus winchester defender (if it arrives:rolleyes:) did I mentioned that Ill likely be alone?? noone seems to be able to take time off for a little Yogi hunt:(

if you are going to be using a ground blind get it up as high as you can, I have plans for using one next year but it will be on a 15 ft cliff, I still might build a small stand about 5 ft high or something.

Also I have been told if you want a big bear, get really high or further back, like 75 yds from your bait. I would love to get a big bear someday but I am quite happy with the 100-200lb range. Alot easier to handle and better meat.

I was thinking about something more along the lines of an observation posts I used to use in the army, but making one on a cliff may be doable too:)
