Need help with Cooey Model 60

I took it out and the height was just perfect for 50 yards which is where I usually shoot from. Just some windage adjustment required now.

Now wasn't that simple.Make yourself an elevator so you can adjust out further if need be,or get one from an old sight somewhere as was already suggested.Taking the material from two locations was what was needed.

Tried to adjust my windage but it did not move. I've never had to adjust for windage before, is there a trick to it that I am missing? It looks like there may be some rust so it could have hardened into place.

Any suggestions?
 
If this is a typical Cooey 60 rear sight, the sight base has "wings" on the front where it screws into the dovetail keeper. You can adjust the rear sight but will have to remove the rear sight from the base and push the base the same direction you want the impact to go, then put the sight back on, shoot to test (repeat if necessary). It might be easier to adjust the front sight if it is dovetailed.
If you want to adjust your impact to the left, push your front sight to the right. Vice versa for adjusting the impact to the right.
 
I was taught when in a pinch, to use a small nail for a rear sight elevator, about 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" long.
We used to use shingle nails (about 1 1/4" long) but I don't think you can get them anymore. When I went to the local building centre they tried to sell me roofing nails which are altogether different from shingle nails.

Give it a spray with some good penetrating oil like kroil then let it sit somewhere warm over night. When you're ready to tap it over lay the gun on something solid that won't harm the rifle like sandbags. Use a brass or aluminum punch and a ball peen hammer to tap the sight over, it'll move, just don't wail on it. If it doesn't move respray it and try again.
 
If the rear sight is held on by a screw you have to remove the screw then the sight comes off you now move the dovetail in the desired direction and re install the sight with the screw you removed and take some shots. A little time consuming but easy to do when you see how.
