Does anyone else who has a P220 .45 and the .22 lr conversion kit have FTE and stovepipes frequently when using the .22lr conversion kit. Can't get through a .22 mag without at least one problem. Have tried CCI, Remington Yellow Jacket HP, Remington Golden Bullet High Velocity. Anyone know which .22 lr ammo works best. Quite frustrating.
Thanks.

I don't have a p220, but a p226, it came as a 22LR and I have had zero problems expect a stove pipe here n there(out of 10 mags, maybe once).

I have had no problems using bulk remington ammo, the 500+ round boxes for under 20$ seem to work the best. I have had more f2f with the smaller 50 round cases, than the bulk packs

This is one of the reasons why I dislike .22 pistols. The ammo is unpredictable. What I noticed was that a squeaky clean, lightly lubed gun always performed flawless for me with reliable ammo.

My GSG 22 was superb when clean, when dirty I would have problems. 22lr is a relatively dirty round, fouling up the gun well before any centerfire would, in my opinion.

I always had good results with Federal Target load, Federal bulk boxes, the MiniMags were a lot of fun and shot well. If I were you, I'd clean the pistol really good. I love my German 220, there won't be any .22 kit going on it. I know a guy with a 226 .22 and it performs almost perfectly...

1. Give it a good cleaning
2. don't use lead (jacketed only) and
3. lube up the rails well.

When new, some of the conversion kits and indeed .22s SIG pistols don't cycle well. Clean off the factory grit and it should work flawlessly within a box of ammo.

SIG did put out some problem mags for the P220 in .22, but those mostly wouldn't seat right in the first place.

Mine (.45 220 with .22 kit) is flawless.

It's the same barrel/slide as the P226, I've put my kit on my 226 as well, with a 226 mag of course.

These kits won't work on the 9mm P220. I haven't studied why, but neither the bottom mag or side mag release P220 9mm models work with the kit. Slide release issue iirc.

Nothing wrong with .22 -- though occasionally (rarely) you could get a FTF from bad primer. Rotate the round and it will go bang. With good ammo this is rare indeed. Yes, you need to clean your .22s and keep them clean. All of my .22 pistols (CZ, SIG, Walther PP, etc.) will do hundreds of rounds in a session without issues, but they get cleaned after each time at the range, and I don't shoot bare lead.

Let us know how you make out!

220 .22 kit works on a 226 and vice versa with the appropriate mag? Never heard that before.

Thanks.
I've shot about 200 rnds and cleaned in between. Still causing problems. Having trouble getting more rounds through it because the jams piss me off. I'll try running it heavily lubed next time. Should I lube the chamber? Have been using hollow points, high velocity.
Gunzik - what ammo are you using when shooting the .22 conversion?

Dude,
I have a 220 in .22
Had a lot of stoppage initially... Firing federal auto-match and federal champion... Until I started running CCI mini-Mag
Not one stoppage since, more than 400 rds of mini-mag fired without cleaning :D

Feed it well and it will serve you well. And at 9$ for 100 rds, it is not so bad to be trouble free

Thanks. I tried the mini mags when I first got it and caused jamming as well. Maybe I'll try them again. More concerned about no stoppages then price and am willing to pay more as long as it feeds properly which is why I'm trying to figure out what others are using.

I shoot Federal Bulk ammo, CCI (various), and some high velocity Winchester and they all work fine.

I'd recommend cleaning the rails and other contact points thoroughly, oiling, cycling it by hand while you watch TV for an hour or two, cleaning it again and lubricating with your favorite product. I use the light grease SIG offers but half a dozen other products are as good or better. Oil is probably better for breaking the pistol in.

It should be great once you've broken it in.

Hey man, I had a lot of trouble with mine too, the Magazine is the problem, the stupid plastic mags are no f'ing good, if you look your mag in you will see that there is a space between the mag and the bottom lip of your grip, load your .45 metal mag in and you will see there is far less of a space. what I did was gerry rig the mag catch with a washer. I searched around you tube a found a video of a guy that shows you how to do this. hmm maybe I got a pic on my mac here....searching.......searching....ok found it...

If you message me and give me your email I will email you the pic I can't be bothered to load it here.

anyways I just used a dremel to cut a slit in the right spot and put a metal shim(ie a 1/3 of a small washer) into it right where the mag catch, catches the mag and them super glued it in there, thus bringing the mag up so the bottom lip seats flush with the bottom of the grips and bringing the mag to the right height so the rounds load smoothly. it did not fix the problem 100% but it made a HUGE difference. if you do some digging around on the internet you should find the same video i did.

anyways cheers and I hope this helps you a little or a least points you in the right direction.

I don’t know much about this subject but try this:
Clean the pistol very well and polish the barrel ramp
Don’t modify the magazines, ever, they will function perfect if they are in their original shape
Run 300 Mini Mags thru and keep the pistol soaked( i will oil the bits and grease the rail)
Do not use aftermarket parts (springs……etc) other than a stainless rod

I've had good success with the bulk 525 blazers, winchester 555, 525 federal bulk and mini mags. The worst performing rounds I've used so far was the 400 round federal brick.

Mine worked well since new. I have about 500 round through it.
I did buy some spare mags that didn't even fit, wouldn't seat. I think SIG had a bad batch about a year ago.
If you have shot lead, you should brush the cylinder and barrel a bit. I use a bronze brush between range sessions and agree with the "keep it clean" advice. If it doesn't work, find out about warranty. I hear SIG is good, I have yet to need to return anything and of course stand to be corrected. If everything cycles when it's empty and you've cleaned it properly, then it's warranty time.
