Gentlemen: I am attempting to locate a Choate SKS conventional stock part#18-01-02 for my Tula SKS. Does anyone know a stocking dealer in Canada? I have found lot's of sources in the US but most won't ship to Canada and others are not interested in Canadian business. I have searched and cannot find a dealer anywhere.

regards, Darryl
P.S. any synthetic conventional stock for hunting ( no pistol grip, folders etc) will do. It looks like ram Line has discontinued the stock they made for the SKS....

Hey madtrapper, what did he quote you for shipping to Ontario? I'm looking at a Tapco stock on the site, and it's about 40 bucks cheaper than Canadian retailers - just want to know if it will be worth it. Does anyone know what kind of custom duties would be paid?

Brownells also carries them.

Please tell us how you like the Choate conventional stock. Been thinking of picking one up too.

There is no custom when they ship USPS... And Yes everything is cheaper from the states.... lol

I never understood why Canadian retailers would charge double the price for some items + tax + shipping.

Enjoy your stock

i dont think that many items are double the price here but yeah , its more expensive bcos they are made in the US and it cos money to import them into canada. also volume , they have much bigger market , not only 10x the population but higher percentage of gun enthusiast.

Yea when you have millions of customers and thousands in stock, you can sell at a price closer to cost. Just can't do that here if you plan on staying in business.

I know it sucks... And I would love to buy Canadian.... and I do when the price is close... Or I buy a New Gun

But For SKS parts, 10/22 Mags and TT-33 parts I simply cant support canadian retailers... The money I save = more ammo to shoot.... :)

Anyone know if the Tapco offers the picatinny rail mount (the one under the gas tube) separately? Or do I have to order a stock that comes with it already mounted?

AFAIK it's a part of the stock, molded in. You can order picatinny rails from various sponsors or use a weaver scope base.

Anyone know the total rifle length with the stock collapsed? I'm trying to get a rifle case for it together but I don't want to order one that's too small or an oversize one.

I agree. Canada population 35 million USA 300 million. We only have about 3 million firearms owners. As to when you import 1 pcs customs won't far&&t with you. If you bring products over 1600 dollars. You will have to pay GST (HST soon) Duty and customs broker fees. This is why Canadian's pay more for same product. If you had to pick it up over border than you would have to drive there, pay for gas, your time, use of your car. Simply think of it as how much you pay if you have to do it on your own. USPC usually does not charge you for all that because they are connected to Canada post, but sometimes you get "lucky" and you get slapped with 60 dollars customs fee duty and taxes. So good luck to all.

i got "lucky" once when the US vendor shipped it to me by UPS and i got a $60 bill in the mail 2 weeks later, i was not impressed with UPS. :(

I got the Choate stock today. It came well packaged. It also came with very detailed instructions and a shim if the fit is not right. My '52 Tula dropped right in and fit VERY tight. The stock is well made and has a decent recoil pad and swivel studs. All in all a good product for the price. Just waiting for my Tech peep sites now...

P.S. Nothing but good service from the SKS man.
regards, Darryl
