Hi, I recently acquired this nice little Ross 1912 Cadet Rifle and I've been wondering about the meaning of it's stock stampings.

I understand the Dominion of Canada-Québec stamp but what does the 872 over the year 1914 stand for?

And can I assume that the stricken #'s stand for Cadet Corps #407 and that the more recent 1621 CC stand for a new cadet corps this rifle might have been transfered too?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

The D is part of the SN too - so D872 to be more precise.

Green is correct, the 1914 is the manufacture date. 8/15 would be the issue date.

You are correct on the CC markings. I believe the number below that is the rifle/rack#

Very nice rifle with great markings!

Thanks Green and Stogie, that makes sense. Yes, it is a nice rifle, I just picked it up last weekend. It needs a bit of restoration as there is a crack in the stock at the wrist, the front sight hood is gone and the rear peep is broken off. Everything on the rifle seems original. It will be a lot of fun to restore.
