A buddy brought me a Browning BBR rifle in 7 mm Rem Mag. It's in it's original box. The box is patched with tape but rifle is covered in dried lubricant and shows no apparent signs of use. Finish looks perfect and so does the rest of the rifle. What could this be worth?

Added info. After a closer look, turns out box and rifle don't match. Box is for a 1978 Browning BBR (Miroku) in 7mm RM and the rifle inside it is a Belgian made Browning High-Power (Sako type bolt?) 7mm RM. The serial number is suffixed L74, leading me to believe it is a 1974 Safari Grade rifle. As mentionned, dried up lubricant everywhere, a beautiful finish and near perfect condition. However, there is no rear sight. Any ideas on value?

Sorry to be "that guy" mate, but are you sure that's the Sako actioned version?

I have L4XX. Lovely thing it is, too, in .243. Thought the L prefix indicated manufacture in 1959, but those were all Mauser actions...

I would expect you will be able to get $1000 to $1500 for it if it cleans up well ... throw the box away...

You might be able to get a factory rear sight from Western Gun Parts... I sold them one I had as new a couple of years ago...

I believe with the Sako style extractor it was at the later stages of production shortly before that model was discontinued.

Any idea for a dollar value?

IMO the Belgian is a desirable rifle, and condition is everything. It appears to be missing the rear sight but from the pictures looks like it would clean up real nice with some work. Just spit-balling here on price as I'm not as familiar with the Belgian's as the Miroku's, low end $700, top could be double that.

It is a Sako Browning. The box is wrong but could be of value to someone in search of same, but no value to your rifle. It is worth $1K without sight, if that is present, $1300 all day long. You will find others listed for more but that market slow. I have several in rarer Calibres and original boxes...need the right buyer.
