I've only been reloading for about a year with good success. I just started reloading for my .308 and the hornady match ammo I'm running through my ss press is being very difficult to resize and primers are nearly impossible to get in. I had some federal brass from a friend and it resized no problem and primers fit perfectly. Did I get some bad brass? any advise would be much appreciated. thanks

As for the neck sizing you will need to start annealing the necks on the cases. As for the primer cups I am not sure on that one. Brass is hardened by working it, this will cause difficulties in resizing after firing it several times. The only way to soften it is by applying heat for a set temp and time.

I can definitely answer the issue with the primer pockets. The Hornady match brass I have had a crimp in the pockets. U will need to get a Primer pocket uniformer. That will remove the crimp and the primers will pop in just fine.

As for difficulty resizing, what are you using to lube the cases? Maybe they are not lubed well enough or maybe your sizing die is dirty. Take it apart and clean it.

I hope this helps.

I compared the once fired hornady brass to some brand new hornady brass i have and it looks identical so i don't think the primer pocket is crimped. i was using cci primers (which fit in my new hornady brass no problem) I switched to winchester primers and the primers fit no problem. I'm confused but it works. I have been using hornady case lube and lyman case lube and trying different amounts and nothing seems to work very well.

I have also had some issues with 1F Hornday brass. I shot 3 boxes of factory to get brass and when loading primers ran into 3 or 4 pieces per box that were very difficult. I was able to prime them but have will start swaging primer pockets on all brass to begin with. One and done.

I just took a measurement and the winchester primers are .002" smaller then the cci primers I have and the winchester primers work nicely. I'm still not sure why the hornady brass is so tough to run through the press where other brass in the same dies feel "normal" so to speak.
