I am looking for opinions on 22cal handguns, any input you may have would be greatly appreciated. I have narrowed my choices down to these 5 models
A. Beretta 87T
B. CZ 75 Kadet
C. Sig Mosquito
D. Ruger MK III
E. Hammerli X-esse or Trailside

I know that the ruger is the standout in the list, but what are your opinions of the others as far as reliability and accuracy. I am leaning more toward the others only because I think that down the road I may invest in a 9mm and am wondering if it would be an easier transition if I started with a pistol that had a slide.

Also, what about a 9mm with a 22lr conversion kit. Is a manufacturers conversion more or equally as accurate as their 22 model. Eg. Sig 220 with conversion kit.

THANKS

Having handled, but not shot, most of these. I would really recommend the CZ. I would say if you can afford it get the Shadow in 9mm and then get a .22lr slide for it. These are supposed to be VERY accurate and are one of the few conversion slides with a last-round hold open. Also the shadow is a current IPSC production winner so if you ever want to play that game your going to have a great piece to start with.
Of course if you pick one up and it feels like holding a brick, it's not the gun for you.
IMHO,

You answered your own question. While all of the above might be satisfactory, only one will have the significant benefit of having an virtually identical center-fire model.

Beware the man with one gun.

Out of your five options, the Kadet is the obvious choice.

speaking of the Kadet, can you get a 9mm conversion slide or is that a one-way sort of operation? I ask for myself and also I think for the original poster.
Thanks,
Grant

Good question. I've been wondering that too.

Also, how easy is it to swap back and forth? Is it something that you can do at the range between targets or do you want 20 minutes and a quiet spot where flyaway springs are easy to find halfway through? :(
