need ideas on reinforce the workbench top for dillon 550b

Hi BCRider, no worries. A world of difference with one piece of 2x4 and some brackets. Factory is officially OPEN! See the picture below.
Was going to the range today but got a flat tire(one of those days....). So, instead, I stayed home and setup the 45ACP dies. 3 dummy rounds loaded, from long to drop free in the barrel, also cycled properly in my G41 & SR1911. They also ended up to be the identical OAL to the wolf reloaded ammo I have been using. Maybe Wolf also uses CAMPRO bullets. :)
Now just need to figure out the powder charge. So far so good. Thanks again for all the helps from you and everyone so far on everything that led to this. Yeeha!
BTW. how's the cowboy action shooting went?

Sounds great! And that's exactly what I was suggesting.

The deck of a bridge will flex like over cooked lasagna noodle if it's not backed up with proper framing. A good work desk is no different.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier but I was away for the last 4 days at the SASS Canadian Nationals for cowboy action shooting.

If that is a picture of your bench then it has virtually no sheer bracing. No wonder it flexed.

The brackets helped but if you really want it stiff, sheet in the entire back (side to the window) down a couple of feet with 1/2 inch ply.

Hi, there is, just cannot see by the picture. there is 2x4 installed on the window side under the tabletop, just like what you can see on the side how the short 2x4 is installed.
with BCRider's idea, I add one 2x4 at the front, and reinforced front and back brace with brackets to table stop. now it's rocket solid. also cranked up some test 45ACP loads, but have some OAL questions/issues which I just put up another post. It's long, but fun journey. I love it!

I'm not at all surprised that a few brackets and screws would provide an adequate amount of shear stiffness. It's not all that large a desk and it's made from a fairly heavy amount of serious lumber. That helps a lot.

It was a great weekend at the match. Mind you I managed to DQ myself for the first time in 7 years of various matches when I moved with a closed shotgun for one whole step. In cowboy action it's "basketball rules" for moving. I messed up and got a trip to the DQ for that stage which cost me any chance of a win in my category. But there's no car to win at the end or fame to be had so I carried on and had a great weekend. Besides, as one of only the two Frontiersman category shooters I had a duty to keep up the level of SMOKE! :d Even won a box of 500 of my size of bullets at the prize draw so I felt I did better than my buddy that got an orange and brown hunting cap along with an electrical tester... :d

I inlaid a piece of flat cutting edge that is held to the top of my bench with carriage bolts, in hindsight I should have gone all the way across the front of the bench with it, then I welded a piece of steel to it that gave me the clearance for the press. Rather than drilling holes for the bolts, I cut off the bolt heads and welded the shanks to the plate, then used a thin piece of plywood to act as a gasket between the plate and the press.

KISS always a good place to start.

Perhaps you might consider another layer of 3/4"or 1" plywood on top with additional underside 2x4 reinforcement. Easy to do and Dillon or no, it's not like you're reloading 105mm tank ammo. Also much cheaper than sheet metal.

sound like fun. hopefully one day I am good enough to participate.
