Off the top of my head, I believe that's a Hy-Hunter, who supposidly did 11,000 commercial M1 carbines after the war, though I can't find any documentation to support that.

Hey Tanis

Thanks , thats the second time ive heard that,HY-HUNTER, military parts, semi commercial stock with hunting rifle sling attachments, which Ive taken off

Well, again, I can't verify that as I've never been able to find definate proof that Hy-Hunter did make any commercial models, though I'm sure someone out there with a larger library of books might be able to confirm/deny that.

I doubt that is what the stamp is for.

He can dream! Besides, failing finding out the truth, you can always say it was General Mark Clark's M1 from Italy, which is why it was stamped with the Headquarters & Signals mark........

Nah, it would be a good story, but just mean. :p

Why try? Get it verified, get patched through to the Registry, and get a unique FaRT number assigned. If it doesn't match an entry in the FaRT, a new one can be created. They might want photos emailed to the Registry, but you can do that easily enough.

Well, upon further investigation, I also found another company that this may fit better with.

Hollis and Sons Firearms Co. founded by Isaac Hollis was described as a maker of every description of sporting and military rifles, pistols, revolvers, and shotguns. While they're more known for their double rifles, and SXS shotguns, they did do a large variety of military firearms.

And the mark of H&S fits better with Hollis and Sons than Hy-Hunter.

But, of course, I can once again find no definitive evidence of this either.
