I am totally losing my s**t. I don't think I've been this angry since the last time I assembled Ikea furniture.

The trigger assembly was easy, but getting the damned receiver in the housing is what's killing me. This is the exact opposite of what I expected.

I don't know if the new kits have excess plastic flashing or if the tolerances are off or if I've missed something, but I'm taking a break after a solid hour of frustration.

Behold the photos below.

It took me 20 minutes just to get the receiver in there at all. Then I practically popped a vein squeezing it in as hard as I could. I thought I had it in there as snug as possible, but as can be seen from the photos, the alignment is still not good re: the receiver cover and the mag well.

Is this normal? I can get the receiver cover on with work, but there's a noticeable gap in the main body of it (second photo), since its being squeezed down fore and aft.

I tried removing the receiver but at this point I have no idea how I'll ever do that. I'm a strong guy but this thing was not budging at all.

All in all the process of inserting the receiver into the body has been nothing like the youtube videos I've watched. Please help me before I rage smash this thing.

I took my dremel tool with a medium stone on it and removed some material from the pressure points in the main body on my Marauder.
It still fit together tight, but you didn't need a hair dryer and a bearing press to get it together after that. :D

Mine didnt line up quite perfectly, and pictures (and videos) online would indicate that it may not be 1000% perfect. You should try and use a rubber mallet to make sure its tight into the lower assembly.

Ive assembled mine but havent yet shot, so I can't comment on its function.

Mine was similarly quite snug. I took out some of the high spots, and it went together easier. Still not easy, just easier. Might be a struggle to get it apart at this point, but think through it.

Thanks for your responses guys. If possible could you take a quick look at yours and see if the components are flush where mine aren't quite? Particularly the mag well (photo #4). Also how much space is there between your bolt release and frame? (photo #1)

The gap where the 2 halves meet is normal, the tight fit is due to some shrinking after the mold process. The easiest way to assemble is to warm the body of the kit in the oven @ 150 for a few minuites before assembling, the plastic is thermosetting & will adapt to your gun when it cools.

Put it in the oven..? Haha sounds crazy. Honestly at this point I'm unable to extract the ruger receiver from the nomad frame. Dave how does my magwell alignment look? You said the gap was normal so maybe my alignments are ok?

Sound crazy, but the polymer will soften, then cool & set to the tolerences of your gun, for a nice fit. The gaps & alignment all look OK, but i would still remove it & refit it if possible....

For the life of me, I couldn't get the receiver back out. So I went ahead with the rest of the install. Magazines seem to seat okay, rounds are feeding, and overall I think I reduced the gap a bit. Going to take it out to the range today and see what's what. I don't look forward to taking this thing down for heavy cleaning. But I'll worry about that another time. Thanks all.

I had to use a mallet on mine to get the receiver all the way in. I held a block of softwood on the top of the gun's receiver, and thumped on it for a while to get it to fit home. If it isn't ALL THE WAY seated, there will be gaps in several places. When mine finally seated, everything lined up absolutely perfectly. I'm not looking forward to eventually having to take it apart again, though!

As hical said, the slight gap between upper & lower halves of the Nomad receiver is normal.

My gun is one of the older, all-metal ones, some of which are apparently slightly larger in outer dimensions...

heat in oven

I was in the process of filing out the part where the magazine well would be as the receiver in that part will not go in. I read hical's response just in time and put it in the oven for about 5 minutes at 150F but it is still not 'hot' and the trigger guard will only go in half way. How hot does the mold have to be ? Should it be hot to touch ?

Frustrated too.

It should be warm, not too hot. If that doesnt give you enough you will need to fit the action, due to variations in sizes of the receivers.

It took about 10 minutes to get it warm but the receiver still wont fit easy, so, I placed a thick piece of t shirt on top of the receiver, a small notebook and used a rubber mallet to fit it in. Everything works... until I need to disassemble it to clean the rifle. Hopefully, the mold will expand a bit in the next few days. Thanks hical and everybody else for the tips.

Just for clarification - is your gun one of the newer ones, or an older (all metal) one like mine?

It would be interesting, particularly for anyone buying the kit in the future, to know which series of guns are likely to be a particularly tight fit...

curious....?

Metal or Polymer shouldn't really matter?

Are they not cast/moulded to the same spec's whether is was 1981 or 2012?

All internals are interchangeable so they must?

I bought my 10/22 around 2nd week of may, the box has a stamp of Jan 2012. So, this is a fairly new model.
