Need info - Carcano rifle?

Here's a few picts of a friends rifle which I believe is a Terni Carcano rifle
I'm looking for any info , current value.
Stocks show dings n' bruises but I didn't see any cracks. Some of the dings are abit deep.
Number on bolt is different than on the barrel ?

Looks like a M91 Carcano. Not big sellers - they seem to go for about $150.

The notch is correct. The rear sight folds all the way forward into it for 100 yd shooting (?). I'm away from my Carcanos at the moment so am going from memory.

1891 Infantry Rifle. Made at Terni. Is the barrel dated "18"? Can't tell that well in the pic.

Nice WW1 Rifle, btw. Bolt matching doesn't mean much on a Terni as most went un-numbered. IIRC, only those made at Roma during '17-'18 were numbered.

Just to amplify what JP said, the Italians fought the Austrians and later the Germans in 12 major battles over the Isonzo River. They suffered on the order of 1 million causalities (killed and wounded) during the war.

The last battle of the Isonzo, also know as the Battle of Caporetto, was a hugely decisive battle for the Germans. As well, Rommel won his "Pour le Merite" award during this action. His book "Infantry Attacks" is a great read and describes in detail the tactical level engagements he fought during this and other battles during The Great War.
