Hi,

one of my friend has an uncle who is selling an enfield jungle no 5. I wish to buy it, but i dont know how much to offer; it is in good condition, 1945, M47C ( for BSA - shirley ), matching bolt and receiver ( i cant find any other numbers on it ). It seem the is a hole on the left side of the reciever; is it normal? How much should i offer??

Thanks a lot

How's the headspace?
"... is it normal?..." Yep. They seem to be running around $500 to $600. Depending on condition.

Thanks! i bought it; he just wanted 360$!! I cant tell about the headspace because i dont have the gauges to check it. He told me he used it last week, so it should be ok. But what about the strange hole on the left side of the receiver?

The hole is supposed to be there. IIRC it is supposed to act as a place to vent gasses from a blown case away from the shooters face (right handed shooters at least).

Now i understand the hole! There is no green paint on the rifle.
I am still new to this forum, so i dont know how to put pics...

I wish I had mine here to take a picture for you.

Basically, 'lightening cuts' were made in the barrel near the chamber. So instead of having a uniformly round barrel, there sections missing. Maybe someone here will be able to post a picture.

actually, in this picture you can see it sort of - look to the right of the handguard, by the metal ring that it sits under

Ah ! Thanks TheIndifferent1 ! I can see it now. Mine is fluted. So is the fluted thing is part of the difference between a real No5 and a fake No 5 made from a No 4? Also, just saw what is wrong with pics on surplus rifle!! Can you???

whats wrong with #20-22. Yup, pretty obvious. whats wrong is those "screw's" which shouldn't be there, instead of a screw slotted long female threaded rod going through most of the buttstock and the short machine screw that goes into it from the other end.

Right sunray, but at least i does not seem too dangerous... Do you know where i could find a good headspace gauge on the net? Should i buy a go, no-go or field-go, or all of them? Is it that useful?
Thanks
