Need info on a Savage 99

Hi all
Looking for some info on a Savage 99 I recently picked up. Serial number dates it to 1914/1915 vintage. It’s got a round 24 “ barrel, not drilled and tapped. Crescent steel buttplate with no logo and marked 30-30 on the top of the barrel just in front of the receiver. My question, is this actually 30-30 Winchester? Wouldn’t it have been marked 30 WCF based on the DoM? Barrel looks original, has the Savage manufacturing info on it.
Is it possible this is a special order?
Any info would be appreciated.

The 32/40 and 38/55 came out with the 25/35 in 1903. Maybe Remington had better lawyers but I and others have wondered why the .35Rem was never chambered to fill that caliber gap from .320 to .379. I’d have one in my assorted Savages.
 
Neither Savage or Marlin would use the Winchester calibre designation on their guns. Simply 30/30 or in the case of the 32 Winchester Special, Marlin marked their 32's as 32 HPS or high pressure smokeless. Yours is a 30/30 Winchester and perfectly safe with factory ammo so marked. A 30/30 chambered Savage 99 is worth a little more than a .303 Savage chambered rifle owing to the difficulty of finding ammo for the 303 Savage now.
 
It wasn’t that they couldn’t or weren’t allowed to put another company name on their guns. No one wanted to put the competitions name on their own guns. Seen big time with Colt, 32 Smith/Wesson they renamed it 32 New Colt. Many examples like this from various companies. Many companies chambered other companies cartridges but called them by their own name.
 
.30-30 Savage Hi-Power was what Savage marketed their rifles as, same cartridge as .30-30 Winchester.
165 grain soft lead point or full metal jacket, smokeless powder.
