I need some info on an ithaca 300 (not gas operated). I went to epps today and really liked the feel and how it came up to my shoulder. I know nothing about. How reliable is it? How will it cycle field loads? Its a 12 gauge and has a fixed full choke
Recoil operated. Parts are getting hard to find. Some were prone to splitting stocks. The fixed FULL choke will limit it's use without choke modification. Having said that they are very reliable if the recoil system is properly set up for the loads you are shooting. All in all they were decent guns but much better choices are out there.
x2. Unless you pick one up for a steal there are better choices. The manufacturer SKB of Japan made some fine guns but I have read they are no longer in business. So down the road parts would be a headache.
Sharpes Gun parts in Ont. somewhere bought out all the remaining parts. I managed to rebuild a 300 that was light of several parts with one phone call. There are parts still out there
Thanks bvk, havent really had a chance to shoot it yet, but it seems like it is in decent condition mechanically. Madtrapper mentioned something about having the recoil system set up for certain loads, how would i set it up?
