Well I bought it cuz the price was right, a whole $80. Here's the thing it's a BSA rifle enfield bolt dust cover no charger bridge mag cutoff and the like but... There's no date of manufacture, no cypher, and the only other marks are ACP in a rectangle over the three stacked rifles and FOR CORDITE ONLY, and of course inspector marks, so anyone know anything else about it? Year why no cypher?

Sounds like a commercial rifle not made for the military. They usually lacked the date and model designation and being made for private sale did not have the cypher.

I'll take a guess but it's only a guess until you can post pictures.

What you have is an MLE with a commercial BSA barrel possible with A.G.P stamped on it. If so it is a target rifle regulated by Alfred George Parker and would of been used in shooting matches long ago?

Please post some pics so that we can get to the bottom of this.

Commercial Enfield. AGP means Alfred G Parker. Sounds like barrel has been change out if marked for "cordite only". Pictures would be great. Mag will cost you as much or more than rifle for correct one. Has the wood been sporterized? What is barrel length? bore condition? ron

I don't know how to post pics but could email them to some one who does, the barrel is full length, sportered stock missing rear volley sight bore looks dirty maybe lightly rusted, haven't touched it since I got home, the mag doesn't have a serial number or the chain they used to keep them on and retains very little original finish

Oh and I've been collecting parts slowly to put it back together have a front band and maybe top wood and middle bands soon, any one have a source for wood

Here's a few pics sent to me by the OP, they don't show a whole lot but I'm sure there will be more to come.

It is supposed to have a rear handgaurd and a full length barrel. Looks like it was a commecial made B.S.A made MLE.

It was indeed a target rifle at one point. The rear volley sight looks to have been removed and I'd bet that it had a diopter sight mounted at one point attached to the left side of the rist of the receiver.

The A.G.P stamp is indicative of a AGP regulated target rifle. I have a no.4 AGP here and I is quite the shooter.

This would be a great restoration project. Needs full wood, a correct mag (looks like a No1 MK3 mag currently being used), see rust and pitting on receiver. If the barrels is like this then it's an issue for target shooter...maybe not restorers. AGP rear sight appears to be originally installed. Someone on GUNNUTZ had a 9G for sale. If beyond your financial resources sell or trade for something in a little better/complete condition. Just my 2 cents worth..everybody got different standards when it comes to restoration. Ron

so the JNT target sight I.m trying to buy would be at home on there? would a rear hand guard off of and smle work? thanks for your help I just figured it was a sportered MLE, what does that do for the value of it anyway?

It cuts the value down drastically. That gun in complete form may bring in $1000 plus dollars. But in the shape it is it may only be worth 25% if that.

If the JNT rear sight is for a MLE then yeah it would be right at home. The proper rear sight for your gun will be in the $300 price range for a good example.

An smle rear hand guard will not snap right on without major modifications to he spring clip and wood. It can be done but it will take some work.

I personally would restore this rifle but that could be a 10 year project with the lack of parts available. It would also not be cheap and the front wood would have to be fabricated from a stock blank. Again all doable but not cheap or easy.

Or, you could shoot it the way it is, an maybe the parts will come your way with patience. I shoot my MLE sporter all of the time and it is very good shooter with the long heavy barrel which means a ling sight radious.

Very nice score, I would of bought that rifle in a second!

thanks again I already have a nose cap and stacking swivel, a lead on a rear hand guard and middle band, I bought it with intent of restoring it and I think I will do just that, I'm not one to sell rifles and like a bit of a project
