Need Info on Uberti 1848 ubuild Kit

I would like to get some information on this weird uberti 1848 baby dragoon u build kit. In July I was at a sports store that had this there. When I asked them about it they said they have had in the back for years and now with whats going on they want to get rid of what they had left. They had two of them but the other one sold 20 minutes before I got there. At 75 dollars for the kit which was complete I wish I could have got both of them. Serial number is less than 100. Now here is the unique part and can't find any information on it. Side of the barrel has the usual Uberti Italy markings but on the top of the barrel has Canadian Arms Corp. Prince George BC stamped on it. Does anybody know about this. I would like to how long it has been sitting there.



Next is my question on finishing it. As its unfinished and the barrel and cylinder is a little tight in spots. What would be best way to get some clearance. I was thinking to about putting wet and dry sand paper on a mirror and sand the face of the cylinder to true it up. as there must be high spots on it. Is that advisable. Also the frame is sand cast. What would be best way of finishing it. I am kind of excited on this project.

I am not 100% and I will have to ask some questions of a friend. It may have been a partnership of some friends that put together kits etc a number of years ago that has since dissolved but whom are still shooting buddies.

First off ensure that it is the cylinder face that is not square to the axis. I would do all the finishing work first, then worry about fine tuning issues like this.

If you can get the cylinder on a lathe and centre it using the cylinder pin - you could face it off a few thousandths.

But it would probably faster and easier to cover the face of the cylinder with Dykem assemble it and see where the barrel is making contact then jut draw file that off with a very fine file.

If you go your mirror route you may get clearance, but it is highly probable it won't be square (to the axis) some chambers will have more clearance than others.

Also the frame is sand cast. What would be best way of finishing it. I am kind of excited on this project.

Files, stones and wet/dry paper - resist the urge to use a dremel (unless you are really good with one!) That transition from the rounded part to the flat part is gonna be challenging.

Canada Arms Corp. was a gun store in Prince George in the 70's & 80's owned by Andre Lapovski. They were the only distributor of Uberti firearms in Canada at the time. They brought in revolvers and rifles in finished form but also brought in a few kits as well. They were rolled with Canada Arms Corp. Prince George.

Very much doubt that the frame is sand cast. It will be an investment casting.
Sanding off the face of the cylinder won't square it up. It will only shorten it.
