Hi guys,
I have an opportunity to get a Weimaraner dog for a great price. From what I've read they are a great gun dog.
What I want to know is...are they a good Waterfowl dog??
Thanks for the help.

Since you are in a hurry and have no responses yet I will stick my neck out a little.
I consider Weimaraners to be primarily an upland dog and undoubtedly a very good one. However, they are a short-coated dogs and do not have much of an undercoat either. Also I have noted that they are short on subcutinous fat.I suspect they may have a problem with cold water.
If you are doing a lot of waterfowling, especially in cold weather like many Canadians then I do not think that breed is a good choice. I am a Labrador guy and they will work well as an all round bird dog/retriever on land and water. Maybe you should consider another breed.
(Let the flames begin.)

To add to what Lex said. I've hunted with Weims a lot and they are great versatile dogs. Having said that, consider what you want the dog for exactly. Further, to me getting a hunting dog is not something to just rush into. You need to know the history of the dog's lines, get to know the breeder etc. Also, generally speaking starting with a puppy and training it how you want is beneficial. I wouldn't recommend buying any purebred dog, especially a hunting dog, without getting a really good idea where it's coming from.
