Need input on loading for a 280 Remington

I'd not sweat the lead tip on the interlock, or pick up some SST's and test them in some phone books. According to friends they have been beefed up and behave more like a conventional Interlock instead of being as highly frangible as they used to be.

I just don't want em to get banged up going from mag to chamber. I'm not a one shot guy unless it's a head or neck shot. I want em ventilated and leaking so I can find em.

I just figure if I'm gonna load my own l might as well make em as spiffy as possible ;) also every load data I read for 160 grain shows about 2750 max velocity. Figure if I want 30-06 speeds I'll just use my 30-06. Honestly anything less than 30 cal with 180's is foreign to me so I'm just looking for all the info possible.

You're not going to get improvement over a 30-06, because the 280 has about the same powder capacity and is basically just a 30-06 necked down to 7mm. The 30-06 will be faster with the same bullet weight - 30-06/150gr = 3050 fps, 280/150gr = 2900 fps. The 280 bullet should have a better BC for the same weight bullets but that won't come into play under 500 yds.

I use 180's 30 cal guns, 150's tend to get a little splody from what I've seen hunting with my cousin the last 20 year's. I like the fact the 7mm has a longer bullet though. In theory they should hold up better cause they're longer and have more to open up no?

I had a load of 58 gr H4831sc and a 150 gr bullet that shot very well in 280.

I'm pretty stuck between H-4831 and H-4831sc they're supposed to be equal ballisticly but there's always the " what if " anything firearm and shooting related is expensive and I'm ok with that, I've managed to justify it and cope just fine :d

Bullet performance for either cartridge will depend on the bullet selected. The advantage of a longer bullet in 7mm is a better BC for the same weight compared to the 30-06 but that is offset by a lower muzzle velocity. Smaller bore is less efficient.

Basically I just collect pump rifles and found one in 280 after a 12 year search. I'll push em as fast as pressure and accuracy allows. My pump 30-06 shot them well either really slow, or really fast there was no happy medium.

Ya I found there is a difference between the 2.

What's everybody's take on the 120 or 140 grain barnes ttsx? I'm talking about expansion, heard lots of horror stories about equal to the amount of praise

I tracked down a big doe a buddy shot with 30/30 vortex barnes ammo. She was about 25 yards when he took her through the ribs. 80 yards later she died. It was like tracking a bear, specks of blood till she fell over. Poured out where she was laying though.
