I have a rem 597 and a marlin 795. I like them both but in my experience the rem is a much more reliable gun. the rem is full size and the marlin is quite small (i'm only 5'9"). the rem 597 eats anything i feed it, the marlin 795 is picky. I'm not putting down the marlin, its very light and fun to shoot. 10rnd mags are cheaper for the rem and easier to find. I also have a 30rnd mag for the rem, nothing over 10 available for the marlin. I have shot lots of 10/22's and personally i feel ruger/remington is ford/chevy kind of thing. Obviously much more customization for the 10/22.
