Need little help with NEA 14" barrel----- Problem solved

I grabbed one of NEA's 14 Police heavy barrels hoping for the best that they would fit on one of my Wingmaster's. Maybe I am missing something but the chamber of the barrel seems to thick and on one of my three 870's I can not close the action and the other two I can close the action but the bolt seems to get caught up one the upper part of the barrel chamber.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Also just touching the barrel gets black crap all over the place, not sure what that's about.

Are you sure it's not the foreend that's rubbing on the oversized barrel?
Most guys have to remove some material from the foreend to allow it to clear the thick barrel when pumping......

I had to do that.

The black is just left over from the phosphating process. Make sure you clean the barrel thoroughly, in and out, before use.
 
B4 modifing anything contact NEA first as it will void your warrenty. As for shipping dirty barrels well...
That is a whole different story.

The forend does need fitting but I can still get the barrel on. The problem seems to be how thick the upper portion of the barrel chamber is as it is catching on the bolt.
 
I just realized the fore end is more of an issue at the back of the stroke where the barrel is thicker it shouldn't mess with the bolt locking up.

The pics are a bit blurry but is the barrel indexed correctly?
It looks like the ejector is making contact as well but it's hard to tell for sure....
One thing I know is if there is an issue NEA will take care of you!

Wow. Something is definitely wrong there. I didn't have any issues other than with the fore-end.

They didn't send you a Mossberg barrel by mistake, did they?

Send them an email, their customer service will sort it out for you.

I wish it was a Mossberg 14" barrel.............That would be twice as good!

Will contact NEA see what is up.
 
While parts from the 870 and HP9 are generally considered interchangeable it doesn't mean that you won't have issues. HP9 barrels not indexing properly on 870s is a known issue for example. It closes on your 870 (still shouldn't catch) but not the HP9. This could be due to slight tolerance differences between the two models which is also compounded by what appears to be an out of spec barrel.

These barrels are on clearance.....
 
Does the recess where the bolt locks to the barrel look to be centered and in line with the latch on the bolt?
Is the cutout for the ejector in the same place as your Remington barrels?
 
Here is the gap I was talking about, also I can not lock the action closed. To make sure the for end was in no way part of the problem I removed it all together. The barrel also is out of index as well it seems. All this is with one of the Wingmasters.

I guess this one will hopefully be going back to NEA.

look like it cought up on the ejector body, when you put the barrle in to the frame, does it get tight when you touch the ejector body, i have had to trimm them a littl at times even with norincos, just dont mod the bbls.

Finally solved the issues............Sold one of the Wingmaster's and the Grizzly and bought a 870P!! Works like a charm now, minus having to shave a little out of the for-end which I knew I would have to. I do wish the two finishes were the same but that can be rectified.
