Need load data for Hornady

the 7th edition has pretty much no loads that go past 3100 fps in the manuel for the 55gr vmax. based on a 26" barrel. Barrel length, conditions, and individual barrels will all contribute to different velocities. I have seen the same load out of the same length barrels on the same day be 75fps apart in speed between two different rifles(consistently not one fluke reading).

tac @ max 24.7 = 3200 fps
win 748 @ max 26.4 = 3200 fps
Varget @ max 26.4 = 3200 fps
BL-C2 @ max 28.1 = 3300 fps

If you go to the hodgdon site you can get data for there powders. there are some loads for 55gr bullets you could work up to in your gun that go to and past 3240

Yes all guns react differently. Two exact Savage Axis 22-250`s could be night and day with the same loads.
My Savage Axis 22-250, I use 34.5grains of IMR 4895 powder, CCI primers and 55gr Hornady V-Max bullets. 3 shots at 100yards is a cloverleaf and covered with a dime, but that is something you will have to try out yourself. Took me about 20-30 shells at 1/2gr increments to figure out. One thing to keep in mind also is: Trying to achieve max fps might decrease the accuracy.

If I understand correctly, they buy enormous quantities of bulk powder, work up a load to meet their specs for velocity/pressure, and make a run of ammo with it. This changes somewhat with each "lot" of ammo made.

Also I would think they would protect their proprietary "recipe" to protect their ammunition sales.

So it may be unlikely you will find the exact recipe. One can usually beat the factory load for a specific rifle as mentioned previously.
 
I don't care much about the load specs other that my scope has yardage markers for every 50 yards upto 600yrds.
it was designed for the AR15 rifle shooting the factory .223 cal Hornady 55gr Vmax box ammo.

As long as the load & bullet is true to the scope markers I'm ok with it. I have the scope mounted on a Tikka T3 Varmint 1-8 twist.

I would also like to try some other types of bullets so it looks like I might have to work on different loads until I find one that works.

Sksavenger and i cronoed 4 different factory loads out of his Salvage this winter and all where under listed velocity. It was a nice day about +8 with i think a 24" barrel. I agree with the others that say you will have to try different loads as each rifle is slightly different, if you get one with a tight bore compared to a max bore it can be a big difference. All bores and chambers are cut to a min and max specs. regulated by SAAMI.
