Can someone give me a load data from the Hornady reloading manual. .270 winchester 140gr SST. Powder, IMR 7828. Does it say I need a magnum primer and what is the minimum and max load? A picture of the page would be better. I would be willing to swap a picture from my Speer reloading manual of any caliber you wish.

there is no data for IMR7828 in my 9th edition.

however, hodgdon site has it from 52 to 57.2gr. just LRP, no need for magnum.

My pet load with the 140 grain bullets in the 270 is 60.5 grains of Vihtavuori N165.
This powder is very close in burn rate to IMR 7828.

I would start at 57 grains and work up judiciously. Dave.

yes. as long as it's same bullet weight. from my experience with hodgdon's data, they have been quite conservative compared to my hornady manual(if it has the data, it will be much wider range). so, as normal/best practice, start with the low end and work your way up, you will be fine.

The Hodgdon website doesn't say SST though. Is this safe to interchange?

while 57gr is still in the range as per hodgdon's data, the min is 52, max 57.2. so, I think 57 as starting point is too high.

Thank you all very much. You have been very help full. Thank you again.

I was confused because my Speer reloading manual says I must use magnum primers for all loads with IMR 7828.

From how you praised the .270 in a previous post I would have thought it was capable of killing without even using powder..... :)

Dave gave you some good advice above..... And I also agree to ensure bullet construction is similar......
