hello all , que#1 if i'm posting on the wrong place mods just wipe it out. i have a very nice no1mk111* 1916 dated BSA all matching that is about 98% orig finish . it is Canadian mk'd with the broad arrow inside a C on the leftside of the receiver and on theside of the buttstock above the brass mk'g disc. the only prob with the the rifle is the previous owner fancied himself to be a master woodcarver and carved what must only be an image of his pet badger in the throes of constipation . then he ground on the stock to make it more pleasing. would there be any place or someone who might have a replacement surcharged buttstock. i have items for trade. que#2 why are most if not all Canadian mk'd no1's BSA mfg ? thanks for your time..........Bob aka ratter179:confused:

Ratter, I notice that you are in the Excited States, so the "parts" problem for you is SO much less than it is for us.

Springfield Sporters has Butts. They have them good and used and beat-half-to-death and they have them brand-new and unmarked........ and they do NOT ship to Canada........ and we NEED the things!

Their prices are very good, they WILL look for markings if you ask them. They have a website, ssporters dot com and it has a search function by type: very easy to use.

I have encountered rifles with the C-Broad-Arrow on the Receiver but not on the woodwork. Butts were like any other consumable; they got swapped around during servicing and rebuilds and a non-matching butt was common. Proper wood for a 1916 rifle will be WALNUT. I mention this because ssporters list their wood by type.... and some of their wood is modern Indian and it is NOT Walnut.

Good luck in your search.
