Hello Sage members of CGN.
I'd like to ask for your opinion on a pistol malfunction.
I'll be brief.
1) Purchased a new Sig P-226R in 2004. Remained a safe-queen until this week. I think I stored it appropriately.
2) Fired 75 rounds of WinClean 9mm 147Gr BEB.
3) Experienced numerous instances of the slide not locking after last shot. All experienced with the one (also new) mag. that I brought to the range. haven't tried other mag. yet.
4) Also one instance of Fail to Feed.
N.B: I will try another mag. soon with Wolf Reloads when I get back from a trip.
My question: In order of probability, what could be the culprit: Mag. problem (spring or follower), slide stop issue, or ammo issue.

All input is appreciated.

Thanks

9 out of 10, its the mag.
I have a P220 in 9mm, and if I don't use
mags made by Sauer I have a the odd feed problem.
The Sauer mags however, flawless.

Unless the slide catch or the notch cut for the slide catch
is buggered(not likely) its the mag.
Use the same ammo next time and a different mag.
When try'n to eliminate probs like these, only change one thing
at a time.

Oh, I've got 2 226 9mm mags collecting dust in my safe.
Very good shape, barely used. If you're interested, they're yours.

See below for your problem... it's not the first time I've heard or experienced this problem. Winclean is great in revolvers, but I don't like it in Semi-Autos:

-Fired 75 rounds of WinClean 9mm 147Gr BEB.
-Experienced numerous instances of the slide not locking after last shot.

Buy any other non-winclean ammo and you are good~ try it and see :)

Since it has been in a safe since 2004 before you fired it, did you oil it being taking it to the range ?
There is a mechanism inside the gun that is pushed up by the mag follower when the mag goes empty & activates the slide stop. Perhaps it is catching if not lubed ? .
Just an opinion. I am not a gunsmith.

Hi Without warning, stupid question, are the 9mm 220 and 226 the same?
If Locgo doesn't want them, p.m. me a price please, I will not be back
till Sat. nite.
Thanks Marshall, in Sask.

Sig 226's are uber reliable. Tops in my experience. As far as the slide not lockin on last shot... reeeeeally watch where your thumb is riding. Very easy mistake to hold a little pressure on the slide catch. Use full power ammo... sigs are made for it and any limp wristing with pussy ammo could result in a ftf. Clean and lube both the pistol and the mag... try again with some 'hot' ammo and let us know how it goes.

220's are single stack.

locgo,

Your mags are responsible for engaging the slide stop when empty. Disassemble and clean your mags... same with the gun.

You aren't limp wristing are you? :slap:
