Anyone in the lower mainland have parking ability already set up, I had a small batch of CAR15 flash hiders done up for a few retro project guns a couple of buds and I are doing and need them parked. These were spec'd from a real XM177 4.5" moderator I had drawings of. They were cold blued as a temporary protection measure.

Aren't the XM177 flash hiders prohib?

Yes, what does that have to do with these, it is only an outer hull..., good try trying to Columbo the question though.;) This is the "look" I was going for, we did change is a tiny bit with a wider wrench flat for ease of install and use a slightly smaller outer diameter to make a bit more visually pleasing...I think they are going to Arwen Ace for parking, I will post some pics of the complete builds once they get going: Picture courtesy of retro black rifles:

Yeah I figured they were prohib but couldn't remember for sure.

So are yours just a pipe basically?

These are just a standard flash hider with roughly the same outer dimensions. The one you see to the far left was almost a solid unit and threw the balance if the gun off, these are basically hollow. I have found most of the aftermarket copies to be too long as a result of the US 16.1" permanently attached rule. As a result they just don't look right, the real early ones were only 4.5" long. I always like the look of the XM177 series, they were what got me into ARs to begin with.

I know that in the US these are considered an NFA item, but what status do they have up here? Has the Canadian government ruled that these are silencers from a legal standpoint? Since it only lowers the sound by a couple of decibels I can't really see it being a prohib item but than again.....

any device designed to reduce the sound report of a firearm is a baby killer. the sole reason for these even being 4.5 is to reduce the sound. so unfortunately the are deemed baby killers here....

you're talking about the originals right...not my little copies...I must admit you guys are a bunch of total numpties who have completely finger banged my thread...these are flash hiders...I have been recommended via PM a place to parkerize them...hopefully a mod nukes this thread before it gets any more convoluted.

Very cool look-alikes. The XM177 is definitely the nicest early AR, and with the baby killing machine gun silencers being banned it isn't as easy as it should be to make your own 'Green Beret' gun
