Need quick tip guys!!!

Hey, so my country neighbor 85 year old lady running her cattle farm alone (husband died last year). Has 12 calfs some not a week old and the Coyotes are trying to pick them off in the morning. She called my crying to help out. She doesn't use a gun, can barly walk and chased them off on her quad.

So tomorrow morning in going to set up behind her hay barn and looking to drop some coyotes. I only have a mouth squeeling rabbit call and a crazy critter spinning decoy. I'll be using my 45-70 any advice or tips would be welcomed. I've done deer, turkey(first one last week) and small critters and game birds but not Yotes yet.

My normal hunting buddy (the great outdoorsman that has hinted anything) can't make it so I'm on my own.

Since they're already coming in for the calves you shouldn't have to call them in. If you have something with a little more range would be more appropriate, but 45-70 is definitely better than throwing rocks! :D Most of all make sure there are no cattle beyond the coyote that you are shooting at, have fun being a good neighbor!
 
Lol Far enough I'm down by smith falls 4.5 hours away from TO. Thanks for the offer. Long as they show up I'll be good, nothing like a 45-70 (instead of a nail driver I call it my hammer thrower), hit anything anywhere and it's toast. It's just being careful with the calfs around.

If they don't show calling them in is my bigger concern as haven't done it and don't really know the style or pattern best used.

Do you have a bear season there?
 
It was mentioned about being careful that no cattle are beyond the coyote you shoot at, but a 45-70 is one of the worst calibers possible to zing off the ground and keep on going. A cow out of sight could be in danger of a ricochet.
 
It's what I got, the Hornady Leverlution is supposed to be better. As for cattle beyond I can see the entire field no issue with beyond target issues.bonly clean yote shots. My hope is I can smoke check him on the tree line before he gets in the open field.
 
Hey guys thanks for all the advice and PM's, Yotes were not out this morning. Sat behind a wood plank make shift blind from 6-7 then turned on the critter and used my double jack call (only one I got). Absulitly nothing, at 8 I did a quick walk of the property and nothing and had to head to work. She will call if she sees them out during the day but if nothing I may setup again tomorrow.

Lol no love for the 45/70 I love that gun it's my favorite by far I use it for everything. Even if I'm low on paper and have an extra box I'll shoot the groundhogs at 1.50$ a piece ; ) I have no issues pushing them out to 200yards and around here that about your furthest shot anyway.

I have that same call and that calf in distress is awesome!
Problem is, I don't think a predator has heard it yet.
