Always start at minimum and work your way up watching for signs of pressure.
And every reloader should have a couple of reloading manuals as reference. Take whatever anyone on the internet suggests as nothing more than this - a suggestion.

My loads are as follows;
158gr bullets with 15.5gr
135gr bullets with 19gr
125gr bullets with 21gr
110gr bullets with 22gr
Most of those are the minimum loads on hodgdon's website, I found that the max loads had no more recoil or accuracy. No point in using more powder and higher pressures.
Use the minium charge listed as they (hodgdon) have taken into account how their powders react.

Whatever you do don't load that powder under minimum charge stated by reloading manual and allways, allways use magnum primer b/c that powder might give you hangfire with standard primers.

H110 and W296 should not be loaded less than 3% under maximum. I use a max. load of 16.5 grains of either, lit by a winchester SP Magnum primer and a 158 gr jacketed bullet in my Rossi lever.

Ok. You guys are freaking me out here. I'm reloading 158gr Hornady XTP bullets with H110. However, I'm using the published starting load from my Lee manual which matches up with the starting load on the Hodgdon website.
Am I doing something dangerous?

yes, Lee lists only max for W296 but max/min for H110.
But there's talk on the internets that H110 is the same as W296 after Hodgdon acquired Winchester powders.
Some even say they got the word from Hodgdon people.
Perhaps the manuals list the old H110 powder.
I never got a good explanation of why W296 can't be loaded light.
I've done it and still have all my fingers. Not doing it anymore though.
I switched to next best powder for full-power 357mag loads: Alliant 2400
