Need recommendation for a ‘tactical’ non-restricted rifle..

Looking for a long range tactical/sniper/el coolo centrefire rifle what ever the kids call it these days :D

It needs to be

*Non-restricted (strongly preferred)
*Calibre: .270, .308, .30-06 (will also consider .223/5.56mm or 9mm if I like the gun and have no other options)
*Semi auto or bolt action
*Would prefer detachable magazines
*Relatively inexpensive

EDIT I like to buy new, so it should be current production

Thanks

Norinco M305, M14 clone. Non- Restricted, 7.62x51, Semi, detachable mags, $399 from Marstar when they have one, up to a max of about $700 from someone else, when they don't. Next time the Marstar boat arrives buy 2.

Take a look at the howa Axiom rifle, or put the Knoxx axiom rifle stock on A Reminton Long or short barreled action, you can see it on the knoxx site
Nice looking stock, but a little pricey for moi... then again, I'm horribly poor.

Oooooo, yeah! Perhaps a Remington Light Tactical Rifle (LTR)? Have you looked at them?

Not trying to slag all those 700 owners out there but I a little gun shy of remmys right now. I have a very good friend who baught one reciently and it was a POS and shot like a 3-5" group @ 50m. This was off a rest in the hands of a guy who regularly fires 1/2 or less groupings with his savage .308 at the 100m. The problem was the gun. Luckily he works at WS in Winnipeg and he just exchanged it for a Tika which is awesome.

He has since seen simular situations with remmy 700s so he is deffinately not alone. That rifle had to have the barrel pulled, rechambered and recrowned to shoot good enough to sell. Now I understand that this is just one rifle and many may work very well, it does point a nasty finger at the remmy quality control. IMHO the best deal out there on a good shooting sniper type weapon is Savage. Just to get a remmy trigger close what you can do yourself with the Savage trigger is a couple hundred bucks on top of the rifle itself.

So my vote is a Savage in .308.

if you want semi i would reconsider the norc m14.....why didn't you like it when you tried it? did you try one that was bone stock with the crappy norc wood or one with a few minor but essential upgrades?

^ I think the gun was unmodified...it did have a wooden stock (I like synthetic a lot better) I guess I would like something more modern.
