Hey Guys,

A Friend and I just got our first hunting/target shooting rifles. Mine is a Mossberg 4x4 and his is a Rem 700, both in 30-06. We have no idea about what type of scopes we should buy and what the key things are to look for in a scope. Our range, Mission Rod & Gun, has 300 metres as the max target. I'm wondering what type of scopes should we get around the $200 range for shooting that far. Or is that not enough money to spend? I'm looking for advice, so lay it on me.

I got Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 and am pretty happy with it. Magnification may be kinda low for 300m range but def good for all-around hunting.

Another vote for the Bushnell 3200 3x9. For the price it is a good value and is very bright.

I have it's older brother, a Bausch & Lombe 3000 3x9 on my BRNO 600 30-06 (2nd from the right). It's my go to hunting rifle and has held up well. I shook something loose in it when I used it on my .375 H&H carbine off the bench. Bushnell fixed it on warranty after I had owned for maybe 6 or 7 years. No charge other than me shipping it to them. Service turnaround was about 6 weeks.

On your 30-06, it'll be fine.

My vote goes to the Bushnell 4200 3-9x40 watch the EE Elmsprint has Brand new ones for about $230 I have bought used for as little as $180 shipped these scopes are the BEST bang for the Buck.
Pete......:)

I looked into the different scopes mentioned here and I notice that they all have different reticules. How much of a difference does the reticule make?

Save till you have enough money for a vx3 4.5-14x40 (vermint reticle):D

It works perfectly on my cz550 in 30-06

I second Leupold VX3 - look for one under the "Exchange of Optics and Sights" - IMO Leupold is a solid product. I have never had any luck with Bushnell...
