Need slanted AK mussle brake for SKS

Good help, thanks guys. Will be ordering the slanted brake from Corwon Arms. I would rather thread the barrel myself since the local gunsmiths in the lower mainland BC say it's a few months wait for their, ahem, "service". Where can I get the proper die for the job?

So how would it be on my 15.5"?

My friend shooting mine, looks like it's coming straight back without a muzzle rise:

Yes, as I said it is good for shorter barrels about 15". Mine is NR size. SKS has even longer barrel. The guy on my posted video shoots VZ in the bush (in Canada) - hence it is NR.

Mine has no brake, just wondering on the difference with the slanted brake on the short barrel. I am assuming it would be minimal. If I put one on, I just want it to be cosmetic and not change anything. If the rifle will recoil downwards, that's something I don't want.

I have one on my fsn and noticed a big difference. The recoil was much more crisp and hard on the cheek! Fast firing yes it would recoil down. Also u will have to re-zero your rifle. Before I put it on, had it zero at 100yrds, put it on and (depending if a left or right hand shooter) mine shot 16-18" high to the right. Tho it looks awesome and will keep muzzle climb down, im not a fan. Only advantage I see is cosmetic looks and good for rapid firing. JMO.

Slant breaks are crap on a SKS or VZ , they change the point of impact zero so much you better have a front sight tool, put one on my VZ and it shot a foot high left and made the recoil worse they can give a nasty sideways cheek slap recoil .. They were only ever intended for full auto AKMs , the the only benefit they have is better muzzle control in full auto AKs .. No sense at all using one on a semi SKS or VZ , unless your one of those guys that dont care about the function of guns but only how they look .

100% Agreed

OK, finally some realistic people appeared with educated opinions - after I start thinking I'm on crack and rules of Universe stopped working.
I opted out slant device awhile ago, but still continue researching on what would be technically the best for longer barrels. Any experience?

Well, of course it change POI. Just adjust the sight. Regarding recoil into your cheek, the slant should not be horisontal, slightly down on right side. I am talking from my own expiriense, I have the sks with slant muzzle brake and it works. Anyone in Vancouver are welcome to try it at PoCo range.

How exactly does it work? unless your SKS is full auto no it does not work . The slant break was built for one purpose only preventing muzzle rise on full auto fire on AKMs and the design was dropped in later models for a ported break . After market slant breaks for non AKM rifles are just a gimmick. Dont waste your money on these people get normal ported break that really does make recoil better .

Ask ladies why they wear high heels - it is not comfortable, you cannot run, hard to walk stairs. But it looks COOL and everyone says WOW.

Aesthetic attitude was a step in evolution what made us humans - the special point of view we take toward an object that results in our having an aesthetic experience.
Anyone?

I'm not interested in bettering the looks of my SKS. I couldn't care less how it looks. I am looking for better performance. I had a ported muzzle brake on before and it worked but added too much weight and length. That's why I want the slanted brake. Small, light, faster follow up shots. Unless anyone has a better suggestion.

People put slant brakes on their SKS and think it shoots better. What you can tell about the group of those? Their own ideologies filter their perceptions of the reality and events accordingly to their own expectations. Human mind see what it want to see and hear what it want to hear.

I think I'm going to pass on one of these for my VZ58. The balance and recoil is perfect as is, don't think I should mess with it just for looks. Feels even better since I put the wood furniture on it:

Great looking gun, comrade.

I am still definitely trying the slanted brake. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work and I can take it off. No harm done.

I can either thread the barrel RH or LH if I later want to try another muzzle break. The slanted one is available in both thread directions but what about the rest? Is there more of RH muzzle breaks than LH or vice-versa?

Really nice. How long it took to order that furniture. I assume it is Ironwood, correct? Was it easy to replace the cover on upper handguard metal frame? Is the pistol grip extended? If so did you use same bolt?

(Now, I guess your next project is to refinish your wooden baseboards and doorframes. LOL)

This was surplus wood from the EE, everything stock. Surplus wood kits are sold out at retailers but it pops up on the EE every once in a while. I'm actually getting 2 spare sets to experiment with to see if I can do an even better job... I may sell a set or two by the time I'm done.

Upper handguard cover spins off if you bend one tab, grip is stock size and uses the stock bolt. Buttstock needed a little fitting for the 2 plates to fit, but otherwise was problem free. I guess the early VZ58's had wood and this is the stuff they used. Armorer kits were sold a little while ago but are now gone. My VZ58 just looks and feels 'right' with the wood furniture. I already have black rifles, this Red Rifle suits it's purpose.

Ironwood makes beautiful stuff, but this isn't it. Yes, the baseboards and door frames need the same attention but it's a big job and I've been putting it off. First, I am refinishing the 2 wood VZ61 Skorpion grips I bought, then will concentrate on the other sets coming.

I posted a thread on the wood furniture if you want to see what others have done as well:

yes no brake at all , run your SKS how the designer intended . dont waste your money on a slant break unless you want to mess up your zero and have no shooting benefit in semi auto.
