My son was given a Mark1 #3 that has been totally Bubba'ed but was thinking of at least making it into a good hunting rifle. Does anyone know who makes a peep sight that will fit this rifle. Thanks

If you mean a No.1 MK.3 (SMLE) a Parker Hale model PH-5A will fit (receiver mounted using the safety screw and a longer trigger guard screw). It's a great peep sight but the stock rear sight will have to be removed if you're shooting distances under 200 yards (as it interferes with the sight picture from the peep sight at shorter distances). These can be found on ebay but expect to pay over $100 US.

If, as your post indicates, you mean a No.3 (aka P-14) I think a Parker Hale model PH-5B will fit (if memory serves)

hope this helps :)

There are conventional hunting peepsights made that can be fitted to a Mk.III rifle by drilling and tapping two holes. Perhaps an ad. in the EE? The Parker Hale target sights are superb, but are overkill for a hunting rifle, apart from being rather large.

Yes the PH sites are for target rifles and would not be great for a hunting rifle.

Not good for a hunting rifle? Expensive perhaps, but plenty good me thinks.

It will drop a deer at 100 yards as easily as punch a hole in the centre of a target.

Anyway, sights are like women, lots of good ones out there but personal preference plays a great role...:D

agreed but not nearly as rugged or insensitive to being tossed into the truck, and less likely to catch on loose fitting clothing.

I think a reciever or charger bridge mounted ghost ring would be a better choice.

I see your point.

I guess it depends on the type of hunting and treatment of you rifle.

It's not a sight that lends itself to abuse

yes I finally have a TZ4/47 for My DCRA .308 conversion and there is no way I'm going to be taking that rifle out and humping it around in the bush. Now target shooting :) I have a new toy

I'd shoot deer with my PH-5A and SMLE - no problem at all - sight it in once a year (like a scope) and tighten it up (really) good and well - but like I said it's all personal preferences. :)

Happened to ask about PH5A sights on another site in the chat room and one of the people had one and made a swap with me. I sent him a book I wrote (poetry) and he is sending me a complete (used) sight. Seeing as my book sells for $12.00 I figure this is on hell of a deal. Thanks again for all the info.
