Need some advice and knowledge da556 front sight and smithing

So i ruined my front sight on my rifle removing the taper pins.its done not usable haha. I ended up having to drill the pins out and i drilled the holes bigger on the barrel when i did it. They go say 1-2mm deeper into the barrel now....is this fixable? Can jb weld be put in with the pins to fill the gap? Is the barrel possibly compromised? I live on vancouver island and im looking at a new front sight and pins from TNA. But the pin holes need to be drilled.... Does anyone know a smith on the island who does this? Or a smith i can ship my upper to? Also am i looking at a New barrel? I know its hard to know without seeing.

If you're using an optic, ditch the FSB - fixing it properly (no JB weld) will be a big PITA. Buy a clamp on or set screw gas block.

If you're stuck with irons - good luck. There's not many Smith's that do FSB pinning. Casey at TacOrd is the guy usually suggested, but I dont think he's accepting that job right now... oh and hes on the east coast (of Canada, not Van Isle).
 
I want the FSB its to be a reto vietnam clone i dont care how far i need to ship it and at this point or really what it cost
 
I have thought of that for sure. But maybe the barrel isnt so bad and can still be used. I cant find any predrilled sight posts.
 
Typically the front sight and the barrel are drilled together, trying to drill the front sight to align with the existing holes on the barrel is a bit of a challenge, make sure you have the proper reamer for a taper pin.
 
If you want to keep the front sight why did you drill to remove it? I don't understand why you wanted it off, there is nothing to service or clean in there.
If roll pins won't work you're buying a new barrel or different style gas block.
I know a couple gunsmiths that won't even look at a Norinco so good luck finding one to try to fix your barrel, plus the cost of labor for one to do it would probably cost as much as a new barrel.

You could always just buy a new $100 crappy Chinese barrel and sell that one for $50 to recoup a little of your costs.

Guess you should have just left it alone. :p

If you want the FSB then why did you try to take it off???

Even if you were trying to put that barrel on a different receiver all you had to do was pull the delta ring back to remove the handguard and then punch out the gas tube roll pin and remove the gas tube. You would then be able to use your wrench to loosen the barrel nut and remove barrel. Reinstallation would then be as simple as reversing the procedure.

At this point (as is so often the case) it doesn't matter why, it just matters about how to fix it.

OP - go buy a new barrel from Canada Ammo. The one you have will sell on the EE. The value lost will nothing compared to the time you're going to waste (time = money) on trying to fix this project with the current barrel.
 
Ok so new barrel new sight block a reamer and tapper pins is what im seeing as my best option thnx guys. On the is there anything special i need to do when installing the barrel? Mateing it to the bolt face anything i should know?

Try to buy a barrel that comes with the FSB and pins, hopefully one from a rifle they took down for parts. That way the holes and everything will already be there and will line up perfectly.
Also, try calling Tier One Armoury in Edmonton, they have FSB in stock. I can't remember if they are clamp on or pin but they should be able to help you out and maybe sell you a decent barrel for your build. They should be able to source you a barrel and fit the FSB to it prior to shipping it to you.
 
If there is enough metal I’d simply ream it to the next size taper and install oversized pins. Or as has been suggested try roll pins. You’d only be out a few cents and if it doesn’t work for whatever reason then you can pursue other options.

Having a FSB installed on a new barrel is not a cheap proposition.
