Need some advice of buying my first ar15

Don't think i'll go with Diamondback, seems to much of a gamble going with it and reading reviews of it, but then again there were a bunch of people that also said they were ok.

IMHO if your budget is $3K, wait for the rifle you really want. Maybe take a drive to some shops if possible to get a hands on feel for what you're looking for. Mostly in terms of weight, ergonomics, barrel length ect.

You've received some really good advice above in terms of brands, from my personal experience I can point you to:

LMT
KAC
Noveske
DD

I've imported from the US, and purchased from site sponsors here. If you need any other info don't hesitate to PM me and good luck with your hunt!

Thx General Brock !

Going to maul over a couple of different models from each and see which ones best suite me, then see if i can see them in person.
The KAC are very nice but a bit too pricey for me as i'm looking at 2-3k max!

get a used one for under 1k or wait for Canada Ammo to get their US made ones for 700, spend the rest on optics and ammo. after you have burned through a couple thousand rounds, THEN get your dream rifle.

AR's are like girlfriends. the first one is always your perfect love until you meet another. after a few you finally find the right one. anyone here that has had an AR for more than a year and said it is the only AR they ever wanted/needed is lying.

Hey General Brock !

Wow, that is very very nice and under 3K! Damn you for making me want to save up a bit more and blast my money! lol! But seriously thx for the heads up on that, much appreciated!

Here are the 3 that I've narrowed down to!

>Rock River LAR-15 X-1 for $1762.22
.223 wylde chamber
18" S.S. Barrel 1:8 twist, cryo treated
RRA two stage trigger
3/4 Moa guarantee
7.8 Pounds
Lifetime warranty (non trasferable)
Pros: Cost, Accuracy, RRA two stage trigger stock, Lifetime warranty
Cons: Slightly less barrel life, slightly heavier, RRA Tro-XL rail, Not a high end brand name (i.e. not like D.D., KAC, Noveske)

>Daniel Defense DDM4V7 for $2061.46
5.56mm NATO chamber
16" Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel, 1:7 twist, Chrome Lined, MP tested, Mil-Spec Heavy Phosphate Coated
1 Moa or less generally but not guaranteed
6.2 Pounds
Lifetime warranty (Transferable! Follows the owner!)
Pros: Build Quality, Slightly better barrel life (than s.s), M-Lok rail, Lifetime warranty, Brand name recognition
Cons: More expensive, slightly less accurate, moa not guaranteed, bad stock trigger (Giessele trigger recommended)

>KOC SR-15 Mod 2 for $2703.84
5.56mm NATO chamber
16" Chrome Lined, 1:7 twist
1 Moa or less generally but not guaranteed
6.6 Pounds
1 year warranty
Pros: Build Quality, Slightly better barrel life (than s.s.), two stage trigger stock, improved E3 round-lug bolt design, Mod 2 gas system with a proprietary design minimizes leakage, High end brand
Cons: Very expensive, slightly less accurate, moa not guaranteed, KeyMod rail, proprietary lug bolt, proprietary parts, crappy 1 year warranty (even dpms offers 3 years)

Forgot to mention that there are 2 other contenders i'm also looking at:
POF Renegade (di model from POF)
Plus vs LWRC DI (di model from lwrc)

LOL, thx P0WERWAGON !

A cheap AR is always fine and will work, and you do have a point, but i really wan't to get something of good quality that will last. Not sure if i'd want to wait that long for a Canada Ammo AR.

No problem and you've got some really good choices there.

I like the DD you have listed, not only a good rifle but will give you some $$$ left over for ammo and optics.

The KAC shared was mostly for informational purposes that you can get one for under $3k, and full disclosure that's the one I have and it runs flawlessly.

Watch the EE and you'll see some great deals pop up. It's not uncommon to see DD rifles selling lightly used for ~$1500. Save on tax and shipping and put the extra money towards and optic and ammo.

LMT/DD/Colt can all be had in your price range and they're great rifles. No need to spend more on your first AR.

FWIW, I've Bill Wylde of Wylde chamber dimensions through DCRA target rifle circles. He is a great guy whose chamber allows 5.56 and .223 to be fired in the same rifle - and yes, he knows they aren't the same, because that is why he designed a new set of reamers.

The POF renegade + and the P415 are beautifully made firearms. I have a P308 and the quality and features are hard to beat for the price. Especially the renagade if you want direct impingement. Things like fully ambi controls, NP3 BCG and barrel, heat sink barrel nut, E2 chamber for extraction, match trigger, 9 position gas block, reciever tension screws, ambi bolt hold open, slim M-Lok handguard, roller cam pin, triple port muzzle brake, and only 6 lbs for a 14.5".
The P415 is piston driven, less heat and debris in your chamber, modular railed reciever and all other features listed above.
If you get a POF make sure it is gen 4. I was lucky enough to get mine on sale and then imported by Irunguns.
They are a bit more money but they are worth it.

Or if you want longer ranges look at thier new Revolution, its a 6-7 lb 308 in the size and frame of an AR15. Makes me want to sell my P308 for one haha.

However some good advice is to try something cheaper, run some rounds through it and then decide what you want and like.
Everyone likes different stuff. You will loose a bit selling that first gun, but it is hard to beat the first hand experience that will help you figure out exactly what you want.

Few years ago, I had some bonus money to spend and ended up with the KAC 16" Mod 1. Couldn't be happier. Just over 3000 rounds and no hiccups, shoots bulk PMC XTAC ammo at just over 1 MOA and I've found a 69gr SMK load that holds under 3/4 MOA.

All that said, I've run a few 3 gun and Tac matches over the last couple years and the DD's always run flawlessly. If I didn't have the extra $k to blow I would get the DDM4-V11 or V7 and put a PST Gen 2 on top. I like the 1-6x for running and gunning. I have no problems hitting 12" plates at 400 yards with my 1-4..

Keep in mind that a decent optic, good mount and 1000 rounds of ammo is going to cost you another $2000.

Ya the KAC is super nice, but maybe for my first i'll get something a little cheaper and like you said have extra left over for optics and ammo, and maybe at a later date get a nice KAC as well ;)

I'm heavily leaning towards the DDM4V7 but finding one in stock so far is a pita, sent a couple of emails to see if i can get one ordered with the regular barrel (prefer to have the regular barrel over the light weight one).

Thx Anpaul,

Took a look but didn't see any at this time but i'll keep an eye on it!
Also i'm a little weary on sending a money order or transfer to someone i've never met as well as not inspecting the riffle in person, for all you know they take the money and run lol.
If it were a sale that's in the same province (Qc), then yes since i could meet the seller in person.

@ maple_leaf_eh
One of the reasons i was also considering the RRA lar15 x1 was because it's chambered in Wylde as well as being a SS barrel, excellent accuracy i've read on those RRA lar15 x1.

@ kb007
True, can't really go wrong on a DD hence why i'm trying to get some info on what's stocked from some retailers atm since they seem to be sold out almost everywhere!

@ dusticles

Yeah the KAC is very nice indeed! Maybe after some more experience and saving up a bit more, the KAC will be next in line to join the collection!
Thx for the tip on the PST Gen 2! I was thinking a cheaper optic at first like a EOTech as i want to spend the most i can on a quality riffle first, then afterwards get a good optic. I'll take a look at those PST Gen 2's!
