As a group, you have convinced me that I should keep the barrel as is for the time being. I had not realized that a number of you had the higher magnums with short barrels and no significant loss in performance.
Once I have tested it, I will get back to this thread and post some results, including pictures.
Thanks again - really appreciated and it's time to get ready for deer hunting (dense wood) with my recently acquired 35 Whelen in a 700 BDL with synthetic stock and topped with a Zeiss 1.5 to 6X32 with BDC (less than $400 on e-bay for the Zeiss).
