Need some advice to buy a scope for a 17hmr rifle (Tikka T1x).

Hi,


I’m from Quebec (explains my spelling mistakes since english is not my first language) and I’m new to CanadianGunNutz... but I’m already looking at the forums multiple times a day. The people are nice and the posts are interesting. Great place!

I have a question and I thought I would ask the experts!

I’m also new to firearms and I bought a Tikka T1x in 17hmr.

I would like to buy and install a scope on it but since I never had any firearm with a scope, I dont realy know what to look for. I also don’t know what I need to install it on the rifle and how to adjust it once it’s installed.

As far as how I will use it, I would like a scope I could use to hunt (close, mid, long range) and/or go to the range with. Ideally, if I sell this rifle, I would also like it if the scope could then be put on either a .22 or, maybe, eventually, a 223.

So I’m open to any sugestions on brands, models, list of things I need to install it, how to adjust it ... or simply if you want to explain why my expectations are unrealistic.

That’s a pretty open ended question. It really depends on what kind of money you want to spend. I would say something that is 3-9x40 would do what you are looking for. You will need a set of bases specific to your rifle and a set of rings that fit the scope and the bases. Your best bet is to either go on YouTube and see what others have done or go to the local gun shop to see what they have.
