Hello all,

I'm new to the forum, this being my second only post.

I need some advice, I am looking for a shotgun. The one that interests me the most, is, well, the S ai g a - 1 2. However, our powers that be, decided to make that shotgun a prohibited weapon.

I won't get into a rant over that, as I don't have the time for that right now.

My question, what is out there that is similar?

Reliability?
Semi-Auto?
Box magazine fed?
Changeable choke?
Most importantly, quality for the price?

Lastly, what, if anything, is there that we can do to get this gun properly categorized as non-restricted? I mean other then a full out revolution or the west separating...

Thanks!

There are no semi autos that are box fed, almost all new shotguns come with chokes that are interchangeable.
Quality for the price is a tough one if you want a semi, the benelli M2 is a real nice short auto at around $1550,00. Most of the less exp guns are pumps. FS

Thanks Fassteel,

The 2 closest options I can find are the Mossberg 930 Tactical, which is a semi auto, tubular magazine, with interchangeable choke.

or

The Remington 870 Folding Stock w/7-Shot Extension, which is a pump action, tubular magazine, with interchangeable choke.

As far as that goes, I believe they will both be more money then the S a i g a.

No one has any thoughts on getting the S-12 Un-Prohibited?

Thanks again!

I can't speak for the other two but this new model from Remington looks like a winner!
Model 870™ Folding Stock w/7-Shot Extension.
I bought the 870 Express not that long ago, it was plane Jane and I added the Knoxx Spec Ops stock and other goodies, also my 870 does not accept chokes. This model as you know already has a Knoxx folder and that great ported choke so your already half way there if your thinking of adding some more mods!!
I just had mine out the range a couple of days ago and was giggling again when I was firing 3" slugs down range in a paper woodchuck! Only a 12 gauge with 3" slugs or greater can reduce a man to giggles!!! lol!!!

Hahaha, Thanks Austen. To tell you the truth I've never fired slugs before  But I suppose I will have to try it.

I know the 870 is tried tested and true, but I don't know anything about these Mossbergs. Someones gotta have a 930, and I'd love to here their thoughts/comparisons between the two.

I am thinking that it will be the cheaper of the two, which will be the remington, that will become my shotgun.

Thanks again :)

I have a Mossberg 930, it's not a tactical tho, but the guts will be the same.

Great bang for your buck, I know when I was shopping around the price difference between getting a pump remmy and semi mossy wasn't that much

They are solid built guns, nice fit and finish, the only thing that seems a bit cheap about it is the price.

Haha, cheap prices are always good. How is reliability? Fires whatever whenever?

Lots of used Remmie 870s out there-must be a kajillion in circulation. Someone told me it was Remmingtons best selling gun hands down. Just bought an old one in nice shape for a tad under $300. Mossies are ok and a buddy used to shoot one of their bolt action shotguns. Nice little 20ga. Still I prefer the 870 Wingmaster- lots of spare parts and accessories and Remmington has a nice website that will deal with all of your questions. Support is nice. The Remmie just feels better to me-it just feels real good in my hands. Accurate as bejisus too but that is the nature of pumps. Nowhere near as fussy as autos either. Ive had mine shoot well with the breech full of marsh grass and muck. They are real easy to field strip too. Been there and done that. Easy to take down too-one nut does it all. The Remmie is real easy to "tactify" if that is your choice. Have fun with it and happy shooting.

I've put a few hundred rounds in it and haven't had an issue.

Keep in mind mossberg shotguns are used allot by military so I doubt they would be using crap.

:shotgun: :runaway:

Sounds good :)

Well, I have learnt that the mossberg 930 tactical does not have a removable choke like I thought it did, its a permanently attached door breacher.

Now I have my mind set on a semi-auto, but I still want the interchangeable choke tubes.

The benelli m4 at 2K+ is far to much money, I would like to stay at below $1,000.00

The FN SLP caught my attention, so any input on that, and if you guys know of anything else similar, I would love to hear about it.

Thanks!

The Remington 870 was my original pick... but then I got this strange idea in my head that I wanted a semi-auto.

If no semi-auto is available, I will probably be going back to the 870...

Thanks for the input :)

Remmington has had autos in their lineup since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Just curious but is the Saiga restricted cuz its got a box mag? Might be the reason cuz it would be hard to plug a box mag down to 2 rounds. Get away from the DM and theres lots of stuff out there. The Remmies are workhorses-ask any trap/skeet shooter or duck hunter. Almost all I ever heard on the marshes was semi fire and lots of it. Good luck.

Yea, I know Remington has the autos, but I was looking for something hopefully cheaper, as they are all over a grand.

FN Guns apparently have a lifetime warranty..?

The saiga is restricted because its apparently an AK.
Idiots.

Thanks for the input though bogie.

Check the EE-lots of used stuff there. I was just poking around the Shotgun Exchange last night and think I saw at least 3. Good luck.
