Need some advice

only two really worth considering are the Marlin 39A or the Browning BL-22 unless you can find one of the older model's from Ithaca, Winchester, Marlin, Browning in the Equipment Exchange. I believe there is an Ithaca Model 49 or 47 or something in the Rimfire section. :)

I own a few:

BL22 Grade II - nice little .22 I find it to feel like a "toy" For close-medium range plinking, or just screwing around, they are pretty good. I dont shoot it a whole lot, mostly because I hate cleaning it.

Marlin 39AS - My 2nd fav .22 If you can get one, get one.

Marlin 39A - Much the same as the 39AS, built with better quality parts, ie ejector spring, and dont have the cross bolt safety. Very hard to find one in 80%-90% plus shape, but worth looking for. They are a breeze to clean, thanks to the take-down ( same as the 39AS ) By FAR the best .22 levers you can get, in my opinion... Prepair to pay an arm and a leg for them... My 39A shoots better than I do, and is my all-time fav gun.

Henry H001 - I think this is the slickest cycling lever action you can get now-a-days. Very nice to look at, balanced well. I stayed away from the "golden-boy" because to me, it looks tacky. I also stayed away from the octagon barrel, because I found it to be un-balanced & heavy. Personal preference kinda things. I also find the feed tube sticky at times, even when its clean. Might just be mine though.

I havent gotten my hands on a Winchester, or Ithica, but I've heard good things about the winchesters.

hope this helps

I have a henry as well and I really like it. Very accurate, great little rifle. The factory sights could be better, but other than that no complaints.

I've had a BL22 FOR years. It has never failed. It is short, for sure, but really handy. One point to look at: with the BL22 the trigger travels with the lever so you will never pinch your finger if cycling the gun fast. I used to do it nearly as fast as the buddies with semis. It really is smooth, and well made. The tubular magazine has a nice button instaed of the locking pin which looks cheap on other guns too.
Cheers jim

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to go with the BL22. My dad has had one for about 20 yrs and it still shoots as good as the day he bought it and by the sounds of it it's still the gun to have.

if the darn 39AS was cheaper, i'd snatch one up. boy i like the look of them. i held one the other day and if feels so right. the stain on the wood is really really dark though, too dark for me.

I just purchased a Henry Lever action from frontier firearms and I love it, the action is nice and smooth and it shoots as straight as you please.
