Need Some Advice

Hi, i have been reading this forum for a while and just joined, and you all seem to know alot about rifles, and i'm looking to buy either a Savage Weather Warrior Model 16FCSAK or a Tikka T3 lite in .270 WSM in the next couple of months or so,so my question is which one do you guys think i should get, since both are known for good accuracy right out of the box. Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

I don't have experience with either but I'd handle both at a shop if you can and see which one feels the best. Everything that I have have heard and read agrees that your right they're both accurate rifles. Good luck with it..
 
Thanks for the replies. Levi Garrett, i'd mostly be using it for deer and maybe some moose, shots would be anywhere from 50-350 yards. Weight would be no problem. How much recoil do the tikka t3 lites have, considering they so pretty light?
 
Just my 2 cents , but a .30 cal in one of those would be choice for larger critters. Not to say that a 270 with premium bullets would not do a fine job.
Do they make a 7mm short mag , would be sweet.
Someone on this forum should be able to help out on the recoil side with these short magnum rounds. I would guess, the .270 to be similar to an 06 with warm loads.

i would go with the t3 lite. very comfortable to shoot, i have in 300wsm and 7 08. very acurate and recoil isn't a problem i think due to a well designed stock. very good value but i would go stainless as i don't think the bluing is great, typical of most lower end guns.
 
T3 Lite. Awesome! Out of the box accuracy guarantee. Also, no special rings needed for mounting as there is a built-in mounting bracket. Though beware that it is a light gun for such a kick butt magnum so be prepared for some recoil. Consider a detachable muzzle break or a heavy duty recoil pad if recoil is an issue. I have a T3 in 300 WSM and had to learn to shoot it due to the recoil - but that is from the bench and only with 180 grn bullets, 165 grn are okay! When hunting - recoil? What recoil? Oh, to have such dilemmas!
 
If you do get the Savage (which would be an excellent choice) I would suggest avoiding the "K" rifle with the brake, unless you're shooting a substantially heavier recoiling calibre, and are prepared to deal with way louder muzzle blast.

Tikka or Savage, either way you'll be happy I'm certain! Both are good.
 
People are real Tikka fanatics on this site. While they are pretty good rifles, I refuse to buy one on principle due to my dislike of Sako, Tikka's parent company.

I own a savage 16, and it's a great rifle. Shoots quite well, with a number of factory loads shooting under an inch. The savage will set you back at least $100 less than the Tikka. You'll be hard pressed to quantify any difference in accuracy between the two rifles. The tikka does have a nicer stock, but the accutrigger on the savage is a little nicer than the Tikka trigger, which is pretty good itself.

The WSM's are pretty good for almost any game. I don't think you'll need the muzzle brake version. I have a 7mmWSM, and while the recoil is not insignificant, a good recoil pad should keep things reasonable.
 
Hi, the reason i am considering the the savage with the muzzle brake is it simply justs looks good, i probably wouldn't use unless i was doing alot of target practice, and if i chose to not use it, i could just turn it off. Then again, that stock on the tikka looks really good too.
 
Savage, you'll love the trigger and the money saved will be well spent on glass. Try and fire samples in your caliber of choice. The recoil isn't that bad at all. Personal choice, I would pass on the Savage muzzle brake. Good luck.
 
I'm with claven on this one.wait for the 798.but i'll add to that. Make it an '06 or .300 winmag
If you just can't, I'd go with the Tikka.You did say .270 wsm right? should be fine for mixed bag hunts
