Need some advise.... CIL 171 or CIL 212

Hey guys and gals..... I need an expert opinion.
I'm looking to get an older, retro-keel .22 for my kids.
I came across 2 candidates and am asking for your birthday expertise.
CIL 171, bolt action in dark hardwood, clean bore but exterior of barrel is not great.
CIL 212, semi in blond hardwood, bore is only rated as good but exterior surface is clean.
Please let me know if you have any opinions on these 2.

I had one 171 years ago. As a kid poring over the latest CIL catalogue I always thought they were gorgeous rifles, and the one I picked up had beautiful wood.

But the trigger was the worst thing I'd ever felt.
 
I had a 171. Shouldn't have sold it. Shot very very good. Often times not far behind my cz for accuracy. Trigger was heavyish but still managed great groups with it. I would like to get it back actually.
 
They apparently are the same mags as some of the older Remington Bolt guns. I ended up getting several at Western Gun Parts in Edmonton. My 171 shot as good as my Mossberg 146BA up to 25 yards. I have no experience with the 212. I thought the 171 was a nice light gun. The trigger on mine was 4.5 lbs and pretty crisp for a rimfire trigger.
 
I just got off the phone with my uncle who is a gunsmith, and he says "STAY AWAY FROM THE 212 AS THEY ARE PROBABLY ONE OF THE WORST DESIGNS SAVAGE EVER PUT OUT". It apparently is what is affectionately called a "jam-o-matic" and he will not work on them anymore. He says that they are a combination of cheap stamped parts, poorly tempered springs, and just a mess to keep running. He echoed my sentiment that the 171 is a solid pick over the 212 and we feel that is the one you should pick. Mags aren't that hard to find.

Would like something semi-old school for my kids to start off with.
 
I have a 180 for my son, got it for his 12th birthday, it has an anshutz receiver as does the 190. It has peep sights an the 190 has even nicer peep sights. They are very accurate!
 
I just fixed a seemingly unfired 171. It was stored in a wall of a house cocked for about 40 years. It needed a new mainspring and I was able to but parts including a brand new mag from WGP.
