Hey fellas, a buddy of mine asked me about this Mauser, and I’m not very well versed in Mausers so hoping you guys can give me some more details with an approximate value. It’s chambered in 30-06, and story is a German fellow imported it along with a move to Canada. Pic of the Tasco is more for the view of the original quick release style rings

I believe what you have is a late post-war "commercial" Mauser 98. They used refurbished military actions with the markings removed. Barrel and stock were newly manufactured. Likely produced late-80's to early '90's.

Pre-war commercial sporters used a different style roll stamp on the left side wall, all on one line.

I can't help much with value, because I've never seen one for sale before. Probably 7-800 bucks, but I could be way off. The scope isn't worth much, but the mounts seem to be good quality, possibly EAW or something similar.

Neither really. A friend had it offered to him for 1500 and I told him that was likely optimistic. I thought it was closer to $500 but wasn’t sure with a few mods done to it. I think the owner will bring it to cabelas now to see what they offer him, which will likely end in him being offended unfortunately. I’m guessing the rifle means a lot more to him than it’s worth, which can often be the case with well used rifles. Thanks guys for the feedback I really appreciate it
