Hey guys,

First time reloading .40SW and just wanted to check with the more experienced here before proceeding.

The components I have is

Winchester 40 165gr truncated cone bullets (WB40TC165)
Hodgdon HP-38 powder

The data provided at the Hodgdon site lists a

Sierra JHP 165gr bullet using 4.8gr of HP-38 as a starting load.

Guess my question would be, is this data still ok for me to use? Or keep searching until I find data that matches my bullet?

Appreciate the feedback

Thanks hatman for your input. I was looking at the data listed for a 180 gr Hornady XPT and that starting load with the same powder lists a starting load of 4.1gr

So a 165 gr SIE JHP starting load 4.8
a 180 gr HDY XTP starting load of 4.1

Can a jacketed TC bullet be used in this type of data as long as I am matching bullet weight?

Does that seem odd?

very good to know... looking up that powder still has listed a JHP bullet though.

Can a TC bullet also be used when working up this recipe?

Yes. Manuals give a range of powder charges to give you a starting point when substituting different components from those used to develop the data.
