Need some help building an AR: It's alive!!

going back to your older post, if you are going to go with the Aero quantum HG, you will need the enhanced upper, not their regular upper.

reason is that the HG locks onto the BAR barrel nut, which separetly is 60$, and however many dollar for the wrench. OR 200$ for the enhanced upper and it comes with the BAR nut and wrench. No headache, no searching around for tool

Im currently working on build number 2 and 3.
Build # 2 is:
Gen 2 Aero lower ( cerakoted OD green )
Rainier arms ultramatch billet upper ( cerakoted OD Green )
BCM lower parts kit
Trigger Tech adjustable trigger w/ KNS anto rotation pin set
custom 18" rifle length McGowen match barrel in .223 rem (3-4 month wait for this though :( )
Syrac Ordnance adjustable low pro clamp on gas block
Lantac EBCG
Raptor ambi charging handle
Magpul ACS stock
Magpul MIAD grip
BAD titanium takedown pins
Vltor RE-A5 buffer tube, buffer, spring
Haven't decided on a handguard yet.

Most of the parts from this build were from a non site sponsor. They always have mostly what im looking for so i shop there alot.

Build 3:

Gen 2 Aero lower FDE
BCM trigger
ALG defense lower parts kit ( $66 from Arms East. doesn't include trigger or grip)
BCM grip
MDK buffer, ergo spring, ergo buffer, ergo qd receiver end plate.

this is as far as im going on this one for now.

I got stuff from DS tactical, SGW, Mystic Precision, CTC supplies, Arms East.

Waiting for SGW to get the FDE aero uppers in for this build. Going with a 16" midlength barrel eventually.

This is damn slow going. I've been religiously checking the EE and all I've grabbed is a barrel, scope, and a enhanced butt-pad for my magpul stock. Lower came today in the mail. Still need:

Aero upper
Aero 13" handguard
adjustable gas block
gas tube
BCG
lower parts kit
trigger
buff tube kit
Raptor charge handle
Magpul grip and trigger guard
5/20 Pmags
cantilever scope mount

What compound can I find at Canadian Tire or another auto parts store that would be appropriate for mounting my barrel?

Depends how anal and weird you want to get. AeroShell is the only commercial grease that meets MilSpec but any high quality extreme pressure grease or anti-seize will work.
It's a nut screwing onto a piece of aluminium with a huge torque spec range, all it has to do is stay tight and then maybe unscrew someday.

Any moly grease should be fine. Try to avoids ones with graphite since this could lead to galvanic corrosion between the aluminum upper and steel barrel nut.

Moly grease, roger. Thanks guys. I ordered a China vise block and I'm going to check if the local tool rental place has torque wrenches.

I've actually scored a few items on my list in the past couple days on the EE.

What I've bought so far:

*upper (Aero M4E1) $240
*barrel (DD) $330
*lower (Aero) $120
*bcg (LMT) $280
*charge handle (AXTS Raptor) $144
*grip (Magpul) $34
*trigger guard (Magpul) $33
*mags (2 x 5/20 pmags) $55
*scope mount (Vortex cantilever) $115
*scope (Vortex Viper 3-9x40) $300

To buy:
adjustable gas block
gas tube
lower parts (ALG lower parts kit? $67)
trigger (ALG Combat trigger? $90)
buff tube kit
handguard $140 (Aero)
muzzle device

Looks like I'm in the homestretch now but a two month wait on the handguard I want...ouch.

So I don't think I need a flash hider or a brake. This is just a bench gun so I don't care about recoil, follow up shots, or muzzle flash. I think I might go with a barrel shroud because I think they look cool when tucked inside the hand guard. Thoughts? I figure any muzzle device I put on is just for looks, so what the hell?

Noveske

Accurate and reliable.

Pinned gas block and gas tube included.

They are by far my favorite barrels.

LMT components and of course Colt Canada are excellent.

I have 2 noveske stainless spr barrels and I concur

Considering I just bought a LMT BCG from you I woulda been p*ssed if you said they were crap! :p jk

The LMT Milspec buffer tube is the smoothest one.

Several of my builds have an LMT H2 buffer as well.

I wish I had a spare for you but Questar should have some. They carry a lot of Noveske and LMT.

They saw the light.

I saw a LMT Milspec buffer tube on the EE. Questar usually has some in stock.

It has a very smooth finish.

With some buffer tubes the finish is gritty, you can hear and feel the difference in the action.

I use the following in all my setups.

Sprinco Tactical buffer spring.

Lancer L5AWM.

FA BCG with Crane O-Ring.

LMT H2 Buffer for Carbine length gas system.

LMT H buffer for Mid length gas system.

PRI Gasbuster charging handle.

LMT Milspec buffer tube.

BCG well lubricated.

Derrob7 's ad. Most of the stuff is sold.

Notice the difference in color of those 2 tubes.

The dark black anodized one is not as smooth as the one with the gray dry lube like the LMT.
