need some help please

Hey guys, I need some help. I have just recieved a Crossman Optimus .177 airgun, but I dont know if it is sub 500fps airgun or higher. It has the marking "C05M77X" on it, and creates lots of smoke and sound when shot. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

I think the only option now is to find someone with a crony and test it. I got a little one that attaches to the barrel on ebay for about $50 if I remember correctly.
 
What does it feel like to shoot? A 495 fps springer will vibrate a little. A 1200fps springer will feel like it is trying to jump out of your hands.

The smoke and noise is dieselling caused by combustible lube in the firing chamber. It is bad for the gun, but can be normal for a new gun to diesel for a few shots at the beginning. It should not diesel continuously... That is a sign that the chamber has been oiled and should be cleaned.

I also have a sub 500 springer that I bought. The sub 500 make way less noise than the optimus.
 
The noise could be dieselling. Do you have a PAL? I hope so as you wouldn't want to be in possession of a firearm without one. It is the feel of how it shoots that is important. You can tell what a 495 gun is since you have one. Alternatively fire both into a 2x4. Penetration will tell you if it is pal or not. Of course, be safe and if you aren't licensed do not use firearms without the direct supervision of someone who is.... If it is dieselli ng it will be noisy, smelly and will shoot hot.

UPDATE: Did 2x4 penetration test with sub 500 pellet gun and unknown one. Both had same penetration. Looks like the Optimus is a sub 500.
 
I believe you can order a new spring from the manufacturer either a canadianized sub 500 or go the other way . Give d&l airguns a call I'm sure they could help you out
