Need some help with a TNW ASR

So a friend of mine bought the ASR last Saturday. We went to the range on Sunday and he got about sixty rounds through it before his grip decided to part from the receiver. Upon further inspection the bolt hole in the "lower receiver" is cross threaded. My question is would it be possible to dismantle the gun and thread the grip screw into the receiver from the top to remedy the cross threading. I cannot find any decent pictures on the internet and I don't have the gun in front of me. I wasn't sure if this qualifies for the gunsmithing forums haha thanks

a gunsmith with a tap and die set could rethread that bolt hole really easily
or just send it back since the thing is defective

My friend was hoping not to have to drive three and a half hours down a brutal "highway" to take it back. There is a good gunsmith in the area but that wasn't really the question. Does the hole for the grip screw come through the top?
