Need some help.
I just picked up an M1 Garand. All SA and correect drawing numbers for the year and with the original barrel. It's in great shape but there are some numbers I don't know about.
On the right side of the butt is stamped AA which I understand to mean Agusta Arsenal rebuild but below that are some numbers. Perhaps a foreign military serial number but I don't know. Anyone?

It is an overhaul lot number applied by Augusta arsenal when rebuilding Garands in the early 1960s. The Danish Army was the most diligent about applying the rifle s/n to the stock. They applied them to the ventral surface of the buttstock between the grip and the lower sling swivel. I have seen one exception on an ex-Danish M1D which has the s/n stamped on the top of the stock below the windage knob. It appears that this practice wasn't used by the Danish Navy which engraved an anchor device plus some kind of inventory number on the rear sight cover.
