Need some help with pricing on a K98K

Get some good photos of all of the serial numbers and stock and major parts and post them in the K98k forums. They’ll tell you exactly what you have. Very knowledgeable guys about all thing K98k

Someone might come along, for a collector grade K98 you’ll need lots of pictures and someone knowledgeable

There are good members here with lots of knowledge. This gun has been around to a couple people over the years. It’s nice and Not messed with BUT I believe the cleaning rod isn’t matched and more importantly the band spring is a replacement. This alone drops the value for me. I have 12 all original textbook 98k, and have sold at that many over the years. Sadly one issue really reduces the value of a 98k here. I personally would pay $2000 or even less. 147 codes are also fairly common from 1938-40.

A cleaning rod I honestly don’t fault it too hard. Matching cleaning rod is very difficult and it’s generally accepted they don’t often match. To me the spring is the bigger issue. I get asked about a lot of 98k, and what I say, is that never want to have to say “it’s all matching BUT......”
A high quality sling is a couple hundred, Ammo if in the correct box is about $40-50 a box. This gun was sold for a lot during a time when there were zero RCs and not many imported guns floating around. Lots of RC came in satisfying most of the demand. Most guys just want a German gun, matching isn’t their main goal. Me and. Several people have brought in and sold some over the years, but this made guns with an issue go down in price and desirability. I personally still would ad much for a sling and Ammo.

If the band spring matched, I’d say the price is about right for a nice prewar gun.
