I just bought a Browning BLR lightweight in 30-06. Its blued with 22 inch bbl and walnut stock.

Looks like this:

Now i want to get a scope for it.

I picked out this:

http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/10458/Leupold-VX-6-2-12x42mm-Matte-Boone-and-Crockett.aspx

My question is what kind of rings or bases and stuff do i need to attach it properly. Id like to have it mounted with double rings so that i can use both the iron sights or scope as needed. Im a newbie to rifles, last one i bought i had a guy do all this stuff for me lol. Have always been more of a pistol guy, but am now getting more and more interested in rifles.

So appreciate the help, tell me if I made a dumb choice as well lol.

with a leupold on it, you don't need the iron sights. If you absolutely must have use of them (which will NOT be necessary). Get weaver bases or Leupold PRW bases and then probably Leupold QRW rings for quick detach. don't try to set up to be able to use simultaneously. it would be a huge compromise on the scope, which you're not compromising any dollars to start with... so why handicap yourself with something that won't allow a proper cheek weld?

Stay far away from nonsense like see through rings. Go with a solid set of rings that mount the scope low. I would look at the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 for a scope. As far as your choice of a long action lever action, I have never understood their purpose. Most people that choose a lever action do so because they want a short, light, quick handling rifle, and the long action Browning is none of those.

Same reason they put an 8L V8 in the same half-ton as a 5.3L - more power. Lots of reasons for wanting more power in the same package.

Being longer and heavier, and not handling as quick, it isn't really the same package.

It is pretty light and manouverable. I have one back home without the pistol grip. I have it mounted with double rings so i can use both open sights as well as the scope.

I had the store where i bought them mount the scope that way and an experience hunter sight both guns in for me.

I have one in 30-06 and one in 22-250. Neither have gone out of zero since I had them. They have been in boat, quad etc.. They are pretty good guns, which is why i bought this one, but i kinda wish i got a bolt action now. However, think ill keep it and get a decent scope to put on it, i prob wont go as expensive as i was planning, and follow your advice.

6lb 8oz vs 7lb 4oz is a big deal? Take a dump before you head into the bush. 10% is hardly significant. My money says that there's no perceptible difference between the two.

Having a dump won't make the rifle any lighter in your hands, and it won't make it handle as fast as the short action BLR.

My f.inlaw has the same BLR in .270win. He mounted a VX2 3x9-40 on it with Burris Signature Z-rings. As you can see in the picture the scope is simply to long for the rifle, it would be much better suited with a 2.5x8-36 or shorter/smaller scope. As for the L/A being slow or heavy, I've yet to hear my 82yr f.inlaw complain about either despite packing it on his back every fall through our local community pasture.
