need some info all matchinh k98 NEW PICS!!!!!!

no... no concern on the price, I was just curious to see what it may be worth and find out more about it. The guy I bought it off said that his dad had brought this rifle back from the war with him and I tend to believe him, he also made no claims as to the originality of this rifle but when I got it home I noticed that most of if not all of the parts seem to match. Overall I am very happy with this rifle and don't see selling it any time soon....but you never know what the future holds.

Definitely. I will agree with that.;)

Something else I just noticed, (very slow to notice) is that the bayo lug is blued.

That was the first thing to stick out to me, not that I'm overly knowledgable on this maker. That and the texture of the finish on these parts.

Even if it is a rebuild or whatever may have happened I'm not in this thing very deep at all so I might just keep it and shoot it some more. But only after a little more investigation and pics for the guru's to examine maybe we can be closer to figuring out the history of this neat rifle. For now it has a good home in my small milsurp collection. Thanks again for the info and please keep it coming. Cheers ratrod72

If it was a good price and you plan on shooting it you didn't do bad at all even if it's not all original.

It will be possible to figure out what has been done to it, should you be interested. Just get as many good photos as possible.

When this sort of thing is posted and the seller had claimed it was 'an authentic vet bring back K98' some of us collectors tend to assume it came with a high price tag. If you're looking for an investment grade collectors piece the value is $2000 and up these days, but if it has been worked on the price should be around $700-$800 and an appropriate gun for the range.

In my opinion it's still important from an investment standpoint to figure out what you have, it sounds like you did okay either way though.

Thanks for the help Steve. I am very green when it comes to K98's as this is my first one ( a bunch of enfields and red rifles) but I love all the info and like I said I'll try to get some better pics soon.

Well those pics are better. In my opinion some parts have definitely been reblued, namely the barrel/receiver, bayo lug, bands, and possibly the bolt, and if those have been reblued, I would suspect the rest has been as well. The bolt body appears to have been polished but the handle and rear portion left blued. It's interesting that the sear was left in the white, as it should be, when the refinishing was done. They didn't blue the sear but blued the bayo lug?

Numbering looks good to me as does the stock. At least I don't think it has been sanded.

Nice rifle overall but the reblue hurts the collector value severely. Even if it was in poor shape before, it would have been worth more if left alone.

I would enjoy it if I were you. It would make a great shooter and still looks really nice.

Thanks for all the info JB. Like I said, I don't have much tied up in this rifle so I will just give it a good home and shoot it at some of the military shoots this summer. After all it's pretty cool that after 75 years this thing is mostly all together and still shoots just fine. So for now she will be warm and dry in my safe.

Cheers, Tyler
